Exclamation need help quick ( primer q )

right i'm sorry its in the wrong forum but i need a quick answer

my question is that i have bought a bumper, and sideskirts for my nova, they were previously on a car so are all sprayed up. thing is im spraying them this weekend and need to know can i just flat down the paint (take the sheen off) then use normal primer (therefore keeping the original plastic primer it was sprayed with in the firstplace under my primer) or will i need to spray it with plastic primer again???

if i need to use plastic primer can i buy it ready to spray( ie. just add thinners and shoot) or will i have to buy plasticiser(sp?)

lmao lmao lmao hope that makes a bit of sense

If the paint on them is already good you don't even need to use primer. Go over the paint with some P400 or something and then you could go straight on with topcoat. It would be best to get some kind of sealer though (similar to primer). If the current paint isn't perfect, the yes, you can just put normal primer on. However, if you are putting on high build it would be best to get a plastic primer/plasticisor so that it doesn't crack.

ditto really. I'd always use a primer or sealer at the least to get an even ground coat for your new colour, especially if its a red or a yellow which can really show through colours from behind unless you properly prime them to get a uniform base. Colours like solid blue seem to go on OK over anything though

I should have said - if you don't use any sealer or primer there is a danger of the old paint 'bleeding' through. Different to not getting full coverage - it won't happen immediately.

if the paint thats on the bumper is a mettalic or a pearl and theirfore has a clear on it can he paint or primer straight onto that? or will it all need sanding back? When i've sprayed straight onto laquer it's gone all crackly (that was laquer couple days old)?

That makes no difference. If the laquer you sprayed onto wasn't fully cured then that is likely to be why it cracked.

It is always safest to use a sealer just to avoid incompatabilities in the paint layers (for example, 2-pack onto celly isn't a good idea!!).

Nothing like a good reaction to ruin your day, thats why i liked using synthetics(lorry paint, chassis paint or whatever other names it has),goes over pretty much everything, and is super shiney straight from the gun,but takes soooooooooooooooo long to dry, always picks up dust and stuff,so went back to cellulose again

LOL I thought I was the only person who painted cars in Synthetic Enamel. Seen the error of my ways now though
