i work at Dawson's mate the Car Body Shop We do Feature Cars Etc We Always use 2 pac Primer as it does get rid of any inperfections is the bodywork that may be left etc.. high build primer is ok but we dont really use it much most bodyshops always use 2 Pac primer
Do you know why they don't use it? I've always heard some people don't like it but never why. Sticks great and comes out great for me.

haven't really got a clue we occasionally use high build in aerosol form on small bits like that sint worth mixing up 2 pac up for like slight scratches that have been flatted out with wet and dry. Anything that has filler or fibreglass in it we use 2 Pac Primer

Is 2 pac like a high build primer how thick is the coat on 2 pac and is some type of hardner used in it.
is high build ok to spray on filler/ polyester filler or is 2 pac better
high build (cellulose) primer is perfect on filler, you can even sand it back if you had to for whatever reason and it would blend seamlessly into the filler (from experience). holds to it no problem!!

2pac is basically 2 component its the paint/primer and a hardner
high build is the same hardner and product
we always jus use high build because of its density and ease to sand back hides imperfections by the fact u can sand around the high spots to make it even or it will fill low spots due to the thickness

does high build primer have to be sprayedin a booth or can you do it in a normal garage
You can spray it on your drive so long as the neighbours are out![]()
Its better to burn out than to fade away. So long as theres not a police car behind you at the time...
'High build' simply refers to how much paint you get on the panel. You can get high build 2-pack primers as well as celly high build, and in many cases will often have higher build than celly as well as flatting better. They will also have much better durability than celly. Finally, they are much quicker to dry than celly, especially if you don't have an oven (or you want to keep it available for other jobs) so bodyshops prefer them for that to.
2-pack is a better product with the exception of the health issues. That's why they invented it.![]()

tis a pain in the pooper waiting for it to dry in this cold, the celly primer is taking about 40 minutes to dry. I'm spraying in the garage with the big door open (wet the floor if you like, helps to have wet cardboard on the floor, holds all the dust and hairs down quite good). Icy outside though!

It'll take a lot longer than that before it is dry enough to flat.
