    Quick Painting Question

I'm painting the rear suspension turret/mounts in my car.

I've sanded them all down with smooth emery paper, and done a coat of primer. I then smoothed that coat down and then I've just done a second coat.

Is the procedure now to do a coat of metallic, then smooth, then recoat? then 3 or 4 coats of lacquer?

Finish doesn't have to be A1, I just want to make sure it looks 'smooth' at least.

I'd apply the metallic, about 2 or 3 light coats without sanding, just put enough paint on until you get a nice even tone. Don't try and make it shiny or it will be too wet. Then apply several coats of clear lacquer. I presume you're using aerosol cans? If so use about twice as many coats as you would with a spray gun, so 3 or 4 with a gun or 6 or 7 with a can.

Allow to cure fully (in cold weather leave it a good few days) then flat back and polish up. If you don't intend flatting and polishing it you can get away with less coats of lacquer. (3 or 4 with a can)
Its better to burn out than to fade away. So long as theres not a police car behind you at the time...
