    todays efforts

well as some of you may know, ive had problems with my astra for a few days now, mainly being that the chip in the key and the imobliser have lost all their codes. and because of this, i cant start and drive it (which forced me to watch from the sidelines at combe insted of having some track action)

well after a breif conversation with a few local miggers yesterday, it was decided that i would bin the c18xe in the astra and replace it with donvaux's redundant x20 xev from his astra gsi. so when i got home from combe, i spoke to don who agreed to let me have it, also to help me fit it at his unit and lend me his a frame to tow the astra to his.

so some pic's, from the day (breaking the usual wales tradition of doing stuff and not taking pic's!!)

on the frame on the back of the pikey van

don busy sorting the old engine out ready to drop.

and its out and yep we forgot the tradition "pic standing in an empty engine bay!"

    old engine out

    new engine

and this is where we found problems ie the sumps and exhaust down pipes were different so we fitted the c18's oil pump, pick up, baffle plate, sump and exhaust to the x20 (with a fair bit of modifying)

but here it is in in the end

and the clean up can start

and ready to go back on the frame to go home

still a bit of tidying to be done, and theres a plug that hasnt got a home at the mo, but it runs and is fine for now.

Huge thanks to don for so much help this weekend, the guy is a legend.

i need to make sure if i can do away with the ecu, imobilser other wise its not worth me doing it. i'll be binning most of that part of the loom then though wouldnt i, ie injectors, air flow air intake, would need the cam and crank sensor. id have to change to a dizzy set up then aswell wouldnt i?

Good work. Do the engines not have there own looms like earlier XE's etc as opposed to the eng looms integrated into the vehicle loom?

Rob I think I walked past you on Sat. Was suffering some dehydration though & was actually behaving a bit nutts, so prolly best I didnt make myself known. I spotted your MIG T-shirt.

yeah i think they do have their own loom seperate from the car loom and starter loom.

second update in a week, whats going on here!

had a parcel turn up at work for me today

so as soon as i got home, i did this

had to re drill the hinges as my astra is a phase 2 (dispite wearing a phase 1 gsi kit and mirrors) and the bonnet is a phase1 but i got it right first time and fitted sweet.

and back away safe in the garage.
