No this is not a wind up, the worlds leading manufacturer of engine components has turned its attention towards the legendary C20XE. At present there are two pistons available :
Cosworth C20XE High comp piston.
The Cosworth C20XE piston is of an extremely versatile design. The raised intruder gives a compression ratio of 12.5:1 on an stock C20XE, but for those wishing to reduce the ratio for racing classes or for other considerations, the intruder can be machined down all the way to flat top if required without sacrificing crown thickness.
The High comp piston has been designed to allow for the markets most popular valve / cam combinations and as a result should not need pocketing in any way to suit nearly all engine configurations out there although it is still advisable to check first before firing the engine up for the first time.
Presently available in 86.5mm, 87mm, 87.5mm and 88mm in a 3 ring configuration, the C20XE piston also comes with Cosworth's patented and world unique anti-detonation groove profile as used by their F1 engines and also their unique Xylan mixture which aids the bedding in process by trapping oil between the piston skirt and cylinder bore. In addition, the piston crown has been mirror polished to reduce carbon build up and prevent "hot spots" forming potentially leading to detonation. To further aid performance in this area, all edges have been rounded off including the valve pocket edges.
Cosworth C20XE WTCC High comp piston for longer rod.
Taking inspiration from Vauxhall BTCC and Chevrolet WTCC engines, Cosworth are now offering a kit for the C20XE which gives users all the technical features of the TC engines with out the price tag.
The WTCC pistons have a lower compression height and require a longer rod (151.3mm over the stock 143.1mm), this when coupled with the dramatically reduced skirt profile over the high comp pistons and the under crown machining combine to give a very light weight piston ideal for prolonged high RPM applications.
The longer con rod serves to reduce thrust loading against the cylinder walls which normally help to rob piston engines of hard earned power and make the engine rev noticably quicker and easier.
