Sky+ box .....how can I still use it without sky sub?

Recently upgraded to Sky+ HD and I now have the old Sky+ box that I cannot use any functions on it such as rec ordings etc, although it will still show the free channels such as the BBC & ITV Cahnnels, but I cannot use its hard disc storage for recording or playback.

Any ideas what I can do without subscribing to Sky Multiroom?

I would be interested to hear any answers on this too, i discovered myself that the sky+ box is useless without the subscription I couldnt even watch the shows after cancelling my subscription that I had recorded when i did have a subscription ...

I was thinking it would be better with my own hard drive to record and watch whenever i wanted without the sky blackmail...

yes i think it is absolutely disgraceful that Sky monopolise this situation, quite disgusting, especially when you have paid for it indirectly through a subscription, it never was free give away as claimed by Sky, I had to sign a minimum contract of 12 months if not 18 months.
