Xbox 360 Help.

Hi guys.

I have been given an xbox off a mate that he doesnt want because it keeps not reading disks.

I was just wondering if anyone knows a way of curing these problems?

Basically when i use the xbox it works fine but whilst playing games it comes up with un- readable disk and stops playing this happens alot and you can barely play it 20 minutes before it does it again.

The disk is fine as i have had them all working in another xbox and it seems to be the console itself playing up.

I'm willing to take the xbox apart as my friend had already taken it apart already.

Any help would be great!

it sounds like the disc reader there is a technecal name for it just cant think of it lol try insertind a laser cleaner into the xbox......

i have another xbox for "spares" would ther be anything i could take off it? i swapped the disk drives over and it didnt read games as games it thought they were dvd's :P

i had an xbox in pieces once take the hole boered out ya spare 1 and put it in the new 1 and try that!!!

First up, Do you plan on using it online? if so, when you changed the disc drive did you flash it to the original disc drives code? if not then it will get banned for life. I would suggest as above, try lens cleaner, if no joy then just ebay it for spares. not really worth the hassle, unless you want to try changin bits over and over till you get it right.

the drives are coded like a key to a car you have to recode new drives in by removing the the code from the old drive and placing it on the new drive u either need to buy the kit to do it or find someone who can

As above, buy a new drive the same make as the one you have and swap the PCB from the dodgy drive to the new one.

If you do decide to use a different make drive you need to retrive the dvd key frm the old board and spoof the new drive to look like the old one and transfer the key across.

You don't get banned for swapped DVD drive keys. The (most likely) way they ban is due to the custom firmware response times, a replacement DVD drive with different key and standard firmware won't get banned. At least i've not heard of one getting banned.

if your planning on spoofing a drive get someone that know`s what they are doing

if it its the lens just buy a replacement lens and fit

cool cheers guys! i've cleaned the lens on the drive and it doesn't seem to have done anything so may eventually just change the drives or sell the xbox as spares lol!

Well on the new Liteon drives if you just replace the drives you can actually get banned, The drive have extra serial information on them such as a barcode on the drive, serial on the laser and PCB.

When you dump the firmware, be it a full FW dump or just a key dump all this info it programmed into the firmware.

There are some random drives without this info but its advised to just flash em back without it if MS never put it there.

Also theres counters that increment everytime you power the xbox without a DVD drive, wether they use this info is another thing.


@daz1492 i'd need to know what drive it is and if its already flashed and @ what firmware, they are all different lmao
