FAO JTAG Experts advice needed.

Currently building an XBOX 360 laptop using a basic OPUS (iirc) as a base, I've nearly finished the rear panel and have come up against a dilemma with modding it, I want to JTAG this as the whole thing in concept is homebrew anyway, this system will be WiFi compatible so will just grab connection and when I sign in to LIVE it will update there and then.

my question is, is it going to INSTA-BAN my handywork just for being JTAGGED?

I know Microsoft don't disclose how they detect and issue bans, so does anyone have any info/experience with this?

I really don't want to mount an LPT socket in this thing if it means getting an INSTA-BAN.

MS have said they'll ban any console if they decide it's been cracked open. That means if you open your console and do the 12v fan mod, they'd use that as an excuse to ban you (if they can detect it that is)

there's no way they can detect the 12v fan mod as there is so many voltage ups and downs going on all the time, the fans will get to 12v if it gets hot anyway, I've heard that one so many times and the amount of people who get pissed off when it gets mentioned is untrue lmao (the same people who would laugh at me and call me n00b if I put this Q to them lmao )

I've heard conflicting arguements about MS and thinking they own every 360 out there, but there has to be JTAGGED consoles still running on LIVE.

I didn't say they COULD detect the fan mod, simply that IF they could they'd use that as an excuse to ban your console.

It's probably going to get to the point where the case on a 360 will have some sort of chip on it where as you take the case apart it'll "unclip" something and insta-ban your console

With regards to the continual ban wave, from testing the LT firmware the general consensus seems to be any update to the console runs a check on the DVD drive for response times or something along those lines. If your console has custom firmware then it responds slower and gets banned, if it's legit firmware then you should be fine. People found flashing drives and then updating resulted in a ban, whereas updating and then flashing the drive kept you online.

The only time i've heard of jtagged boxes on live are for people selling MW2 boosting sessions, they host as many games as possible before the console is banned (usually only a day or 2), then change the CPU key for an unbanned console and go again. Seeing as jtagged boxes boot a different dash i don't see how you could get away with having it on live and hoping MS don't notice. Hell as soon as they see you playing a SNES emulator they'll get suspicious

yeah I know all about JTAG lobbies and TBH I have no interest in piracy when it comes to XBOX's but being a "laptop" it would be nice to boot games without the disks in the drive when it comes to LAN stylee arcade bashing nights with a few mates.

I think I'll chuck a JTAG on my "dead" RROD console see if I can't grab a good NAND from it as a backup if this one gets banned, I think keeping it using origional stuff while using online and only reflashing when I need to.

TBH the above sounds exactly what I want total customisation whenever I need.

Its about a 3 hour bantime for Jtagged. Instaban if you are unlucky.

They can easily Detect XBReboot as it emulates the Efuses, Lockdown counters and pairing info IIRC. Probably a load more stuff too.

I think they can also detect the Jtag wires connected onto the board.

There is one person on se7ensins who claims to have a Jtagged console on live for a couple of months now but alas wont give any info, I think they Use a Cygnosv2 with freeboot and extra patches instead of a single nand XBReboot.

If you want to use the info from your RROD box youll need the CPU key and a good nand dump.

Also, I reccomend removing resistor R6T3 on the underside of the board right near the CPU to stop any rogue updates blowing Efuses and leaving the console with an unexploitable CB (bootloader)

If you are just using it for local LAN then block LIVE access in console controls.

Yeah I know the guy you mean and I'm quite sceptical about that as there is no real evidence to support those claims.

I think I'm not going to bother TBH I'm putting a lot of time into this so I don't want it banned, guess I'll just have to use it as a stock system.

l337 calibra is selling previously red ringed ones that have already been exploited for £80. If it's never red ringed that makes it more desirable, and definitely jtaggable vs actually jtagged changes what it's worth as well

If it's only jtaggable i'd rather have it posted directly to l337 calibra to jtag it and then post it to me once done
