    Best anti virus??

My Norton 360 subscription is soon to run out and TBH it's done my tits in asking permission to do this that and the other and telling me to constantly back up twice a day.

I clicked the link to renew and of course it's fooking muppet money to renew. What I was wondering was what other recomend. I of course want a good top quality anti virus but I don't want to be paying such ridiculous money for it.

Any recommendations from people in the know???

    Many thanks,

    Jimbo.

AVG is a little bloated imo. I use microsoft security essentials, totally free and hasn't obstructed me once.

NOD32 is good, and it's free if you steal it.

I agree that NOD32 is very good. You can get it from here pretty cheaply too, £11 per machine per year if you buy two licenses for 3 years.
I use it on XP, Vista & Win 7 and had no problems on any of the 3 machines since I installed it.

    Re: Best anti virus??

when i renewed norton via download, my machine went haywire.
apparently it was Norton. they have a very effective marketing strategy which works well. i would not trust them after it gave me a boot error 32.
i have kaspersy now. it does everything. they are suppost to be good (from what i read n heard).

    ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4

Real quick and easy. Just got a years worth for now if it's good I'll buy more. I think you could sign up for 3years plus for the price of 1year of 360!

As I've said early days yet but no asking for permission every time I open a new window etc etc.....

OSX, I know there are some viruses for apples but they are few and far between, plus you have to actually WANT to infect your machine to do any damage lol

Just changed from Norton to AVG so will let you know .
One thing that is annoying is that if I put onto standby and come back it wont go back online again and have to restart it .
    Never did this before .
I canny invest in ya and for that reason , I'm oot .

Surely these free editions have their limitations ?
Although there are people who can get round using a very good free AV .

NOD32 works great. I used to use AVG free, but over the years and updates it's become very bloated. NOD32 running in the background barely using any resourses

    Re: Best anti virus??

I stopped using AVG when they started trying to be all things to all people. Since then I have been using Avast Home which is free, it works well for me.

I am yet to try NOD although a few IT pros I know swear by it, everyone I know who uses Norton swears at it!

Another vote for Nod32 Very light on RAM
Did have Avast which was fine but the computer im on is severely lacking ram and nod seems to be using less.

    Re: Best anti virus??

Which? magazine March 2010 tested with following results

Best for family, with blocking tools, Norton Internet Security 2010 £50
Best for budget, Windows Securities Essentials Free
Best for beginners, Bitdefender Total Security, £40

AVG did not do as well as Windows Securities Essentials in their tests.
