Thats shocking! Luckily the guy who has just installed our sky+ is a friend so he obviously didnt cut corners and didnt insist in us having a phone line plugged in and all that shat.

We have just got sky+, no sports, movies, travel and leasure, or extra music channels, for £18pm which is nice

That isn't good. I've had Sky installed 3 times and have to say that I have been very happy each time. I guess it is really down to the specific installer.
Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Normal Sky they don't tend to worry too much about this.

Sky+ they are a lot stricter

Sky Multiroom is essential to have the boxes plugged into the phone line as they need them to all dial out from the same number so they can verify that they aren't being used in seperate properties.

Re: Trying to cancel Sky .....

Both myself and my girlfriend have freeview - mine built into my TV therefore I have no rewind record but Loren has a Humax recorder which we can rewind etc.

Personally I find I have enough choice with 30 channels of which 10 are unwatchable as shopping or encrypted that having Sky just does not float my boat.

Seems this hassle is not worth the monthly fee and the normal Tv licence for freeview is much less hassle.

Re: Trying to cancel Sky .....

A mildly amusing anecdote about Sky installers....

Years back when I was a workshop foreman, I took on two apprentices. One was a 16 year old loon, who never knew when to shut his gob and the other was a guy early twenties who was monosyllabic to the point of rudeness.
"alright xx, have a good wekend?"
    "yes"
    "get up to much?"
    "no"
    "nothing at all?"
    "no"
"err....some of us are going to the pub after work, you fancy coming?"
    "no"
Honestly, in the couple of months he was there, I got maybe 30 words out of him that werent yes or no. He worked and moved around at a pace that made continental drift look speedy.

Anyway, thy both turned out to be complete numpties who couldnt be trusted with anything more complicated than a screwdriver, and the decision was made to get rid of one. They were both as hopeless as each other, but the younger loon was learning a little and at least could carry a conversation. The decision was made.
Before I got round to doing anything about it, the guys glacial workrate slowed even further and he made a series of expensive screw-ups, then never turned up one day. He got his girlfriend to come in a week later and collect his stuff for him. Turned out he had given up and found a job installing Sky tv!
I dread to think about this...the guy barely knew which end of a hammer to hold, and had the customer skills of a dead dog, and had got a job involving ladders and power tools and drilling holes into peoples houses!
If you ever see a house in aberdeenshire with a sky dish pointing straight up in the air, the cable flapping about down the wall, and entering the living room via a 30cm hole hacked in the middle of a wall using a pneumatic drill, then nailed across the inside from the centre of the wall at a diagonal angle down to the telly using bent-over nails to hold it, it was probably installed by him.

Re: Trying to cancel Sky .....

    Well an update :

Not a word back from Sky from either of the two emails I have sent them.

The second time I sent the email I saved a copy of the mail server log so they can't use the excuse that they didn't get it.

Will be ringing them shortly to have another moan.

Oh and the box keeps locking up when you use the fast forward or reverse functions.

Re: Trying to cancel Sky .....

And the online web email I have just sent them :

    Please cancel my Sky.

I find Sky in breach of contract over the recent agreement we had over a reinstallation and provision of a Sky+ box.

The installation was shoddy, the box did not come with a remote control or instructions. The engineer promised one would be sent out within 4 working days and this has not happened. We have had no Sky magazine as yet. The box keeps locking up on fast forward or rewind.

I requested that as part of the condition that I stay with Sky I was moved to a different package. This has not been done and I have been charged the rate for a package I don't use.

I have sent two emails to your company detailling the problems I've had and not had a response from either of the. I have a delivery report to prove that the last one was received by your email servers.

The first email was sent on the 5/6/08 and the second email was sent on the 12/6/08.

I spoke to someone in an Indian call center who was unable to help me or tell my why I was still being charged the old amount and not been switched to the new package and was advised to take it back up with the cancellation department.

Last month I should have paid £18 for my Sky, I paid £38.

I have posted pictures of the install, my original email to your company and a copy of this online contact on the following public forum.

    http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/elect...ancel-sky.html

If you could arrange to have this Sky+ box picked up, my account cancelled, a refund of my Sky fees from the date of "installation" and compensation for my wasted time in trying to sort out this mess it would be appreciated.

My Mam just cancelled her sky subscription. Teh only way they would allow her to do it was if she sent all the letters she recieved from them back to them with 'Please return to sender, no longer at this address' on them.

Re: Trying to cancel Sky .....

Dom, sorry to hear that you are having a problem and these people are just bricks and I should say pricks really.

Best bet is to write to them and tell them that you are very dissapointed and that you have now instructed your bank to stop DD payments, write in the letter that you have had enough and that you have endlessly tried to make or arrange for the changes but it seems that they have not been able to deal with your problem to your satisfaction. It is pointless blamingputting the blame on Indian call centre when the fact is the whole company stretegy is planned here in Britain.

You may also threaten them with reporting to consumer watchdog, or whatever other responsible bodies that are out there to protect the consumers, this way they cannot take any more Pi55 out of you by saying that you have breached their conditions. But you must do it in writing.

Send your letter by recorded delivery.

You should then get an apologising letter from them, ssaying how sorry they are to loose you, but should you ever wish to come back then please do not hesitate to contact them again for a better service next time. And you hope for better, thats true.

Just noticed they aim to get back to me within 6 days rather than the 24 hour response they promised last time.

Oh well - complaint was last made on the 30th so they have a couple more days to get back to me.

    Absolutely nothing as yet.

No email, no phone call and been billed for yet another month at full rate.

Box has locked up maybe 10 times a day now - keeps losing all remote functions then regaining them and executing all the stored ones after about 10 minutes of waiting.

Because technically I'm signed up for another 12 month contract on receipt of this new box and while I have it, if I cancel the DD then they can come after me with the debt collectors which is something I haven't got time to deal with at the moment

Re: Trying to cancel Sky .....

TBH, there is not a thing anyone could do to screw you up, if the service they promised to provide did not materialise or was upto the standard they specified then you have every right to cancel and refure payment, as I said earlier as lomng as you have notified them in writing using recorded delivery or even using a phone call that you have recordede with their knowledge, they cannot prosecute you on any ground since they are at breach of the contaract condition, not you and any court would understandably throw the case out. So just cancel subscription (DD) and wait until you hear from them, then send them the copy of the original letter with proof of delivery that you sent them earlier.

I bet they would apologise and try to correct the problem or give you a complet discharge from any liability.

Re: Trying to cancel Sky .....

Plan here Dom, the chap that sells sky still has his little stand in the Swansgate centre wellingborough.

Go up to him with all you stuff (paperwork) and ask him to call his office (don't take no for an answer)...if he doesn't..tell him that you will come back the next day with the box, dish and wires and dump them on his stand with the emails and letters blown up so all can see them....
