    Question Un-installing Norton anti-virus?

I am totally frustrated with Norton and want to un-install it. Is there any precautions I should take first and is there anything I should know about first hand before I attempt this?

I have looked at replacing it with AVG but am looking for advice first if this is the right action for me to take, any help is much appreciated.

    Good luck.

You'll probably need your NAV disk to uninstall it.
If you don't have that you can download a method of uninstalling.

First try just removing it in add/remove programs.

    AVG is a good option.

I have the disk, can u tell me what the difference between removing it and un-installing will do to the amount of space it currently occupies?
p.s. thanxs for replying so quickly lmao

    Both the same really.

If you use an uninstaller its tidier as it gets all the little bits, and is normally easier.
Using the manual removal instructions its harder, and doesn't normally get everything.

Space is normally about 300mb now i think, it all depends what version really.

    Good luck indeed.

I had norton on my laptop. I used the disk and the norton website uninstaller, but there were still bits left of it.

I think I just had a bad version.

Update: I have uninstalled Norton. I have installed avg but it's early days yet so I can't really say if I like it or not. I do find one major difference between the two, Norton never took almost 2 hours to scan my computer. Is this normal activity, taking more than twice as long to do a total scan?

I prefer Norton, even if it is more hungry on the resources.

You only really need to use the uninstall tools if it does not come off properley or you are intending on installing Norton again.

Depends how fast your pc is and how many files you've got. Norton may have been doing a "smart scan" where as AVG might be doing a full one

I find NORTON has slowed my parents computer right down. It takes forever to actually get on the net (connect) since we installed it.

AVG was pretty good but I got the month's free trial & it wouldnt let me install it again.

Does anyone actually take up the American option of subscribing to the full version? I'm always wary of this.

I did. It only lasted a month before it then stopped protecting & threw up pop ups galore to purchase the full version IIRC. That was back in January.

Used grisoft site to get it.

I used to swear by Norton a sit gave good protection etc but lately with one pc it's been giving me right jip..........i'm trialing AVG Internet Security at the mo on a 30 day trial.

Found stuff Norton hasn't so a + so far, on the down side unlike Norton it doesn't give you a spam folder that automatically sorts spam, just marks some of it spam

You mena it just adds a prefix to the email like **SPAM** or something similar instead of putting it in a folder? Easy way round that is to make a folder and create a message rule for anything containing **SPAM** to go straight into it.
