    ReSpray

I am about to spray my whole car.

I need a compressor, any suggestion on what to look for in one of those?

Paint obviously, silk violet (think i will need laquer as well?). How much paint will i need?

Whats this deal with thinners? How do i use them and what do they do?

Any instruction or guides would be very much appreciated!

    Thanks

Why don't you practice using cans on small bits of metal first before you go buying all the equipment. If you can get a good finish on that, then it will give you an idea of what is involved and you will have learnt enough to know if it is worth doing yourself.

    Rub Down,
    Primer,
    Rub Down,
    More Primer,
    Rub Down,
    More Primer,
    Rub Down,
    Paint,
    Rub Down,
    More Paint,
    Rub Down,
    2 Coats of Laquer,
    Rub Down,
    2 More coats of laquer,
    Polish will Rubbing Compound

You may need to use extra coats of primer and paint but the order is the same. Ask at a motor factors for the correct grades of Wet and Dry Paper (to rub down) and ask for advice.

No, of course not, I wasn't sure if you had any experience of painting thats all, no, if you are going to do the whole car, then obviously get the correct equipment, unfortunatly, I can't help you there. Just didn't want you to waste your money not knowing the task ahead.

Right ok, youl need quite a large compressor if you want to be doin the whole car in one pass, (all at the same time not one coat!!!) because most spray guns concume a very high volume of air, - if the compressor is to small it will run out of puff and then the gun will stop spraying correctly, the gun type itself can affect air use, gravity fed is less wasteful but suction type is better for larger projects, so its a bit of a choice, also i think that suction guns although heavier on air are much better to control, the weight of the paint is below your wrist and not above.

Just personal choice, if you need more help just ask!

ok just re read your question,

Go for as large a CFM compressor as you can afford,

Paint, 2 pac is the best but can be dangerous, well priced, and you should need about 2-3 litres to do your WHOLE car, and have some of the same colour left if you prang it!!

Thinners, the factor will tell you the correct thinners and HARDNER if you do go for 2k paint, mixing ratio is usuall 2:1:1 Paint:thinners:hardner.

But remember when using 2-pack full respatory gear is required, nasty stuff once its in your body it doesn`t come out,its not just breathed in,it is also absorbed through your skin

Silk Violet is a pearl I think so it will only need thinner (probably about 1:1). You will then need laquer with this. Get 2-pack (if you have the breathing equipment) and it will need hardener and thinner as A9 MGX said. The ratio will depend upon the brand of paint you use.

Is this bare metal, or just over the top of the existing paint?
