    Clock/needle illumination...

After having blue LEDs for quite a while now, i was thinking of a bit of a change. I know there are 4 LEDs in the clocks. Is the light distributed evenly from all of these, or are say, 2 for the numbers and 2 for the needles, for example?

The light guides utilise more than 1 led each.
If you look at lamp placement, you'll see that the 2 inside ones are shared by 2 dials...

Ahhh, mr Evil. I was hoping you'd be around to answer this.

So it wouldn't be possible to have blue numbers with red needles then?

    Well.....
I think it could be possible by painting the needles a colour that, when mixed with blue light, makes red (not sure whether removing the needles is practical, or even possible)....
I was toying with this as I wanted red needles for my green numbers..

Gotta remember that mixing coloured light doesn't follow the same rules as mixing coloured paint though

feck that, i'll stick with blue everything then. Instead I might do the window switches and headlight switches red, leave the clocks and centre console blue.

It'd probably be less hassle (but more expensive) to have electro-luminescent dials and fit coloured LEDs behind them to light up just the needles

    hmmm maybe in the future.

I was just thinking it might be real simple to do, like swap one or two bulbs around and have different colour needles. Just an idea really.

Evil, how much would you charge for the bulbs+any resistors to do the leccy window switches (driver and passenger)?

Also, does the leccy mirror switch thing have illumination?

Blue, red and green LED's are £1.60 each (and come with a resistor).
The mirror switch will only be illuminated if you have heated mirrors afaik.....
Got limited knowledge of Astra interiors.

Put a set of my Indiglo dials in so you get the blue and some of Evil's red leds then you get what you want

I see what you're saying but i wanted the needles red and just the numbers blue, not the whole clock face.

Evil, how many bulbs are needed for both window switches? I've got the GSi door cards ready to go in and they've got controls for heated electric wing mirrors as well. how many for this?

single switches use a single LED....the heated mirror one will use a much higher rated resistor otherwise it'll be a floodlight
The only switches that use more than one LED are the 2-way and 4-way window switches (but then, they are just single switches lumped together...lol)

re: The heated mirror control, are we talking about the light that comes on when the heater is on? is there no other illumination on the mirror controls then? Sorry for the amount of questions, i'm at work and can't remember what they look like, lol.

Yep, the little light only comes on when the mirror heater is on.. nope, no other light (well there isn't on the Cav3 ones anyway)
