    False floor?

I am thinking of stripping the rear seats out of my nova and making a false floor.

what thickness of MDF should i use, and is it a case of drawing round the carpet and seat to get a rough shape then cut it out with a jigsaw?

    any help appreciated

Drawing round the carpet is hardly accurate. Measuring it would be the best way to do it, just remember "measure twice-cut once" and you will be fine.

As for thickness, 12mm should be fine.

material to cover it with can be found in ripspeed halfords but its not exactly cheap. OR try remnant kings for alternatives with far better prices.

Depends on what you plan to put on it. 12mm is fine for bolting amps underneath, but try and leave something heavy on it and it sags like buggery (mine did). Crossply is stronger, but harder to shape.

As said above it's better to measure it than try cutting it from the carpet. Took about 30 fits to get mine to fit properly, but it's worth the trouble.

Try ebay for the carpet. I got some off there (waxacar) for about a £5. Enough to do an astra boot with some left over.

When you stick down the carpet use a spray adhesive and spray the wood and the carpet, then let the glue go off for a couple of mins. Then start from the middle and work your way to the outside edges.

get some pine and make a frame work underneath to screw the MDF into. You can then use 6mm MDF like i have in my boot - Saves weight and is just as strong/if not stronger when screwed to a frame!

When i did my false floor in the cav boot i used 8mm with a pine strap frame to support it. Very strong and i don't have to worry about putting tools in the back etc. Also fitted a trap door to hide my Spare 17" and keep it safe.

Just a suggestion: i put wadding under it, in all the nooks and crannies i could cause i found it a bit 'boomy' at times but that sorted it out. Easier doing it at the time cause trying a week later after you fitted it all with no more nails is a biatch

Dutch..u know the frame under the layer of mdf board...did u actually screw the farme into the bottom of the boot metal floor or just have it sitting there and then rest the mdf board (cut into two parts obviously) and then screw the mdf floor onto the frame bits?

    cheers adam

I bought a massive sheet of mdf while ago and a few long lengths of wood blocks...to make a frame up..but dont wanna loose speed of the car do to weight really hmmm..was just gonna cut a sheet of mdf board out of the carpet layout and measure up that way and cut it in two parts (mdf flooring) then carpet it and squidge it in the boot and bolt the amps to it etc and lay the sub boxes on top..any pics of your boot matey?
    cheers adam
