GTE rear black strip yes or no

the black strip, gte badge and 16v badge have all been taken off from my car, but im seriously considering re-applying them, as i want my car to look like a gte, wheres the best place to get these black strips from, can i buy them from vauxhall, as i dont really want a shiny one from one of theze sticker places, any ideas, also who reckons astra mk2 gtes look better with them and who reckons they look better without?

I would replace it mate, You can get them from vauxhall but im not sure how much they are.

personally I think removing them takes away the cars identity, from behind, that black stripe is what tells people what the car is all about.

Worth giving vauxhall a try however when I was after one they told me they couldn't get them anymore. Saying that though they also told me they couldn't get the water hoses either. If I remember correctly they wanted around £40 for it.

I personally like them without the black strip. For some reason, I think it makes the car look 5 years younger.

You can get the GTE and 16v logos seperatly, so why not just fit them on there own?

i really think they look good without and ive got a spare gte sticker and 8v sticker ready to go on , just waiting for a nice clean gte tailgate to turn up as my one is rusty.

Why not just mask off the tailgate where necessary and spray with matt black???

no, i reckon that would look crap tbh, if im gone do it, i want to do it properly like from the factory ,

mavvmad, i totally agree with you, my cars slowly starting to no longer look like GTE, but some form of modded astra, i want it to be a GTE 2.0 16V, some of my mates say stick a cosworth badge on the back (which technically i could i suppose), or turbo badge, but its not a turbo its a GTE and even though it is modded i like some of the standard styling, i want people to be able tell instantly what it is, im considering maybe some nice tasteful new style chrome badges just " GTE 16V" on a black strip, for me the best GTEs are totally standard with subtle mods, such as shinys on Total Vaux last month - thats a propper GTE

Thats exactly what im gonna do mate, the back of mine is debadges all save for teh GTE one and thats coming off too.
Im planning to put a chrome Griffin off a vectra and Vauxhall Astra in chrome
Gonna have to make up the GTE 16v with individual letters though I would think.

Yea im with you on that one, Your latest red GTE is sweet, when you do it if you sort yours before i get me arse in gear and sort mine, id be well intrested in the pics.

No problem mate, I already have the Vauxhall badge I just need to get the rest of them before I put them on otherwise its gonna look odd, but i will certainly take some pics when its done.

Andyastra got a lot of help from a local shop, dont know the name but if you go from Staple Hill to Kingswood small shop on right set back a bit by chip shop. Very helpfull will show you plastic, colours thickness ect. Hope this may help.

There was an absolute minter of a track car at knockhill. it had the tailgate painted in normal black paint where the strip should go, i didnt even notice at first. It looked good. Better than it would if it was matt. I would keep it black one way or the other.

My cars blk anyway so u cant tell but i prefer the blackness with a nice red 16v onit anyday of the week otherwise looks like a bad boy car LOL... no offence

Andy, live in Kingswood not far from Green light. Drive black bog standard Astra GTE E reg. Will look out for you, generally floating around both our area`s as mother lives off Kingsway.

Andy no markings on my car, just a bit of grott in rear arches (to be fixed soon) live by Courtney School. Have seen big guy in silver GTE with dtm zorst, always thought it was you, dont know why. Im the one that will be holding the traffic up, try to keep to speed limits. have seen loads of acciddents, I dont want to be in one myself.

it works well, i didnt even notice that the gte in my garage had the b pillars done in satin rather than the tape!
