Not had a Nova resprayed, for a full respray including preparation and finishing I wouldn't expect much change from £1,500, probably as much as £2,000 at some places for a complete top-notch job.

On top of that are any repairs that need to be carried out beforehand; e.g. no point respaying all of your car if the back arches are crustier than a slice of stale bread.

that much!! sorry for the language but F**K!
i was not bothered about the inside i just wanted the outside painting, the car itself is in very good condition, its a A reg and has only dun 40,000 miles, it was owned by a collector for 7 years therefore was kept very well......I thought i would be looking at £800 or so, it is a saloon so i knew maybe a little more.. well that has truly ruined my day, week and month! this is what i wanted: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/speedfight/Camera/r.jpg at the moment its not black (im not sayin which colour it is ) and i didnt want to mod it too much as shown in that image...

if i did yours youd have to pay for labour and pay full wack for the paint and materials so that would end up around £1700 + VAT
so i said to the monkey.....

Sorry, you didn't specify. I was quoting for a full, complete strip-everything-out respray. Probably get it done 'on the cheap' for around £500 tops, then. Have a good weekend

deoends how much time they spend prepping your car and how experienced/gives a toss the guy whos spraying has/cares

and also depends on the state of the car to start with (rust, dents etc)

all the cars ive seen that have been sprayed on a small budget look crap mate...but its your car and your money
so i said to the monkey.....

    Question

im in coventry mate, i know there is one bodyshop here called Longford Bodyshop but i cant seem to find anyone who's used it ..I know black can be a pain in the arse but ive tried all colours with my car and that is the only one IMO that looks any good....i dont mind gettin stratches repaired now and again...

For location, im in Coventry as i said but i will go as far out as Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Leicter and possibly derby but preferable not that far...cheers

PS...I was gonna lower it and stick a gsi bumper on and alloys how it is but i thought it was mean

well we could do it for £1000 outside...but thats in a nice shiney mettalic black with a blue flip

if i was you id just save up and take it to a good bodyshop, if anythings wrong with it they should repair it free...dont think Mr fred in a shed would do that
so i said to the monkey.....

Looked at the pics. Bottom of rear arches where they join the sill look a little crusty (hell what do you expect on a 20 year old car) so they would need repairing properly before the respray. Like Scottsport said, a real good bodyshop will fix minor blemishes like that as part of the deal, but the average chap doing a quick cheap job will just spray over the area with fresh paint and within a month rust will be breaking through again.

I once saw a place on the 'net that offered to repray the average car in undercoat and two-pack for £100-£150 providing it was supplied to them totally prepped and ready to spray.

Not a bad offer really, 'cos at the end of the day most of what your money is being spent on is labour costs, before and after spraying, so if all they're doing is supplying the paint and aiming in at your car, it's a cheap way of getting a respray if you think you're capable of doing the prep and finishing work yourself

John, cheers mate, that looks like a very good deal, ive sent my quote...That crust on the back is actually crap (not literally) i cleared it off the other day and its spotless on one side but the other has a tiny bit of crust (much smaller than on the pic) Like you say in 20 yrs its not gonna be 100% but IMO it aint too bad...once again cheers for the link and i will use i think..

My mate has just had is mk2 GTE resprayed in flame red (same colour) on the outside, had 2 new arches welded in at the back and pulled out (wider for wheel clearance) front and back. had both bumpers, mirrors, spoiler etc sprayed too for around £500, which i think is a pretty good price. this was all done by a proper bodyshop and it is a PUKKA job!
