Question de-strip or not de-strip that is the question.

was thinging about de-striping the mk2,

    just want peoples opinions.

does anyone know if the strips can be removed from the bumpers too as i was thinking about removing these and making them flush.

any feedback would be greatly received.
Under the Bonnet = k&n & sri exhaust from manifold.
body = gte side skirts fitted, gte rear lights, clear font indicators, de-stripped and badged.
    wheels = 14 " alloys, 195 65 14's on rear, 185 60 14's on front.
ice - american mp3 stereo, 6x9's in rear, pioneer's up front..

the strips on the bumpers are part of the bumper!! unless its a GTE bumper??? you could attempt to flush them using filler tho?? try to grind them down first but be carefull not to go thru the bumper? and get the strips off

I tried the 'boiling water method' and it didn't work properly the paint had already started to bubble and lift behind the rub strip so now it just looks a right mess cos it took half the paint off. mine was a h reg in average/good condition gotta find summit to stick em back on with....

i recommend that if u want to take em off pull em off slowly but u should know that there is alot of hand work envolved in gettin the crappy glue thats left behind looks quite good on my car i think apart from the fact that its a different shade of blue below where those strips were which can be fixed with a bit of t-cut and polish

    GERREM OFF!

Just peel very slowly and carefully and you will be fine, again the hard effort comes when you try to get the glue off but the end result is well worth it.

take them off, just be careful. Getting the sticky shite off can be a pain, I tried everything, even some dodgy chemical stuff and it didn't really work, you might have to roll it off with fingers (after warm water treatment)

Are you on about the plastic bump strips?

Or the shitty silver tape stuff?

If the 2nd one, then you could try the above options, but i just waited for a warm day, then gently started peeling away. It gets well annoying after a while, coz just when you think you have a run, and ur gonna take a lot off, it snaps, and you have to get ya nails under it to start again (like selotape)(sp?).

With the glue gunk thats left, just use a bit of t-cut and elbow grease

Definately get em off, i think my astra looks much better without em.

getting it done by a local garage who do loads of racing bits for jags.

40 for the k&n, 20, for the carb to stripped, rejetted, 10 for a breather filter(pipercross) plus 10 for lab..

thats realy good and whilst im there, there gonna swap my themostat and fix my blowing manifold for nothing...

by the way what ya got done to the mk 2 of yours.

Nothing too drastic as of yet. Got some Cavalier 15inch GSi alloys on there which look good. Got loads of bits waiting to be sprayed up (sri boot spolier, boot handle, door handles, front grill, bumpers, scuttle panel, door mirrors) but just waiting for the weather to be right (or until someone offers to spray em for cheap!)

Soon i should have the sri steering wheel and remote central locking and leccys windows and leccy mirrors.

When i finally get the backlog of jobs sorted, ill then get a 32/34 weber carb and k&n air filter.

What colour is ur astra then mate?

yeh i was thinking about getting a new carb somit with lots of grunt but was not sure what would fit a mk2 head..
ive got a lots of jobs building up that i need to do when its fine.
luckly it was a nice day yesterday, so i washed the car, waxed it and tcutted it looks great now. also used some enginer degreasent and cleaned the whole engine. didnt like that ... car wouldnt start for 4hrs oops.... heheh its all fine now.

my car it white. yuck !!!!!!

im off to the scrappy this morning to pull a sxi apart. there is a minter in there but has had an engine blown plus all the elecs. body work is rusty. but its got a huge zorst on it which the guy said i can have the whole unit for £5 if i take it off. had a look yesterday and its mint....

    wish us luck !!!

Mk 2 Astra paint was possibly not the best. I have removed all glued on trim from my Mk 3 and it was so easy. I used a length of fishing wire, to separate the trim from the foam and then used a hair dryer and a soft cloth, and finished off with T Cut and then polish.
I asked the whole family to tell me what the difference was, and they all said, "Don't know" - Still I like it better.
Question is : Should I tell insurance company about modification !
If I buy a Cavalier Turbo and use it daily will it last forever ?

k&n is on, carb rejetted and setup for sports (tune), zorst of the sri is in the but and needs to be cleaned. got the dash and wheel to fit.

    erm thats it.
was thinking about the elec mirrors and windows but found that the elecs are buggered on these.
i can get any bits you need of the car, just let us know what you need bud and will sort it out (if it fits in my pocket). there is also a gte in there buts its virtually been stripped of all the good bits
