    Rotten Arse

I'm in a bit of a situation here guys. I'm halfway thru modding my mk2 - bodykit, etc and now i need to get the rear arches replaced with round ones but unfortunately the panels to the rear/bottom of the arches where the bumper wraps around are rotten. Inside the boot, the areas down by the rear of the arches are also very rotten. Some of u speculated that this could be due to the sunroof drain pipes being blocked or something but after a fairly involved removal of the rear trim i couldnt find these elusive drainage pipes so where do they run to, and where can i see if they are blocked/broken?

Anyway getting back to the point, I want to know if u guys know of anyone whoc could possibly undertake such a mammoth rear end job (replacing arches, panels and priming ready for spraying) and how much it would cost. Also does anyone a good, not too pricey sprayer and lastly does anyone think it really worth it or should i just buy another Astra and transfer all the gubbins over to one that doesn't have buggered bodywork?

Any help or info or suggestions would be appreciated.

The sunroof drain pipes run out behind that little plastic panel by the windows.
half way though doing my arches, i think the bit behind the bumper rots from water getting in round the rusty arch.
i just cut off the lower parts and maybe just replace them with fiberglass as they are only cosmetic.

if its where the bumper holds on to, u can get new ones, mine ws rusted to **** when i got mine, i got new arcges, new lower three quarters(sidemount bits for the bumpers) and rear valence all welded on, they dont need any work except underseal as no1 can see it, and the rust u can just coat in seam sealer.

Where did u get those replacement rear 3 1/4 panels then and where did u get them welded on as i also need this done but with rounded arches. I'm in london by the way but will travel if it means i'm not paying thru the nose, to get the work done. I basically need a bodyshop that will repair the back end and weld in the new 3 1/4 panels and round arches and spray the car.

lower rear quarters/valence, cant remember wot there called where £12 each and i cant remember the price of the arches
, i got them welded on by a mate and did the filling myself, the back of the body under the boot doesnt hve 2 b bought coz all u need to do is get a sheet of metal and cut it 2 size and weld it on, i got a large sheet for £10.

i bought the arches and quarters from camberly autofactors, also known as spares people express, i dunno if they have a store round london, any autofactors should be able 2 get hold of em 4u

hey!!! wot rear arches are you putting in? im after putting the round ones in but dont know which to use? the rotten parts u described are standard on most mk2 astra's if not all of em! ive just fiberglassed mine for now i could fit the panels and paint it but it depends how far u wanna travel and how much u wanna pay?

Hurrah!! I found the sunroof drain pipes but . . . . . . they're fine so water must be getting in somewhere else. Anyway I'm putting in rounded arches by using two front wings and cutting the arches out. Front left for rear right and vice versa.

ScottSportUK, do you weld then mate? If so how far is Hull from London and exactly what would you be prepared to do? As i said I need rear arches and 3 1/4 panels fitted and smoothed in, then a complete respray. Could you handle this? Let me know.
