Best bet is read the Haynes manual. It's an easy job but if you've never done anything like this b4 then allow a w/end.

lmao i know a lot of people will think i aint serious but hopefully i can prove a few people wrong if i manage it all, you saw the heap it was in when i bought it stemon cos it was off ya dad! i'm doing my own thing with it and if it all works out then i'll have a nice car, also i havent been going to 'mummy and daddy' asking for cash for it, i have paid for it all myself so far which is probably the best thing about it

Good on you lad, nice to have a nice car for your first one. Mine was a 1.0 Micra, as least I never had any prob' with it, never let me down once.

Have you had an insurance quote, if not your in for a nasty shock, best not to do anything to engine except exhaust/air filter.

i rang liverpool victoria and CIS about getting an XE transplanted into my car, quoted me £592 on my dads insurance as a named driver, and £1802 or something like that for my own policy. before i actually go ahead and do it then i will get several quotes from different companies, just to make sure, becuase i will be very stuck otherwise! should have some before and after pics up on mig in a few weeks for anyone thats interested

Is it the entire dash, or just the lower parts?
Lower parts easy, the top bit is harder, you need to free all the wiring looms and find the two bolts in the engine compartment, under the windscreen.
    They're there, in their room.

lol i dunno how it was so cheap liverpool victoria seem to give inconsistent quotes, each quote they give lasts for 60 days from when you rang up. just got to ring round insurance companies i guess, they said that my car with the 20XE engine in would be classed as a group 13 car (cav gsi was group 12!)

A Cav or Astra GSI with 20XE or 20XEV is a minimum group 15 insurance. Whoever quoted it a 12 or 13 has misheard something. Double check your quote.

hmm i think the insurance company im with ashborne (i think thats how its spelt) has good price's

wen i first passed my test and had a Peugot 205 1 litre - under my dad i was paying £451 third party

now my car which is a 1.4 astra (mk2) i think im paying something like £550-590 cant remba the exact figure but all my friends seem to be paying alot more then me even for third party

CIS said about my car being grp 13 with the engine swap. LV just gave me those quotes, before i go and do anything daft i'll ring round a lot of companies for sure though. both those quotes were fully comp aswell
