Paint and primer removal from wheels

Has anyone got any ideas how i can remove the paint and primer from a set of Omega elite wheels. Bought a set for when i 5 stud the cav but nitromores wont touch the primer. I dont want to have them sandblasted as this leaves it far too rough as i will be mirror polishing them once they're stripped bare.

    Thanks

paint stripper works good but there is also bead blasting that they use plasic pellets that leave a smooth surface

Just sand them down... 180grit will remove paint and power coat.

you can get them dipped. not sure on powder coat.

you can't blast powdercoat off. if powder coated.

as benn said need flatting really. a lot of work.

You could try thinners but if nitromors doesn't touch it then that prob wont either, like benn said might be a sanding job, start with 180 then 400, then 800 then 1200/1500 and prob 2000 to finish before polishing. A lot of work i did it to just the edges of some wheels and took best part of a day just to do that small area!

yeah this was more of trying to find what i could do without sanding as i didnt want to go down as far as 180's 240's etc. And you dont need to go to such fine lengths for polishing as anything over 600 grit isnt worth it maybe 800 but very rarely. 600 and the right polishing process brings you mirror without goin about that

Bugger, looks likes sanding it is unless i can get them dipped. Would of saved me a lot of work being able to start from 400 grit lol

im polishing a set of Audi Competition alloys at the moment, they only needed starting from 400, bit or 600 and mirrored lovely.

Guessing you polish stuff for a living?^ Must "home" kits arnt that good, so you'l want to go with a higher grade sand paper...

I don't know why it wont touch the primer though, that is strange , normally nitromors takes off anything- including skin!

It's the powder coat finish i believe, most paint stripper wont touch it.

Just thought, what about caustic soda? Nasty stuff and don't know what it would do to the metal but my mate used to work at a plating, powder coating etc place and i think it's what they used to strip stuff. You can buy it from tesco i think, for unblocking plugholes and stuff we have some under the sink. If you do use it wear gloves and goggles!
