    Flush tailgate....... What needs doing??

    Morning all!

The next mod on the list is the flush tailgate...

Please can anyone tell me what needs doing in regards to enabling the lock to work with out the normal button.

Also, is this something that I can do myself, if so, what do I need??

    Many thanx

the best way it to cut out the reccess on the boot so you are left with a big hole. then from the back of the boot lid tac in a metal plate.

then on the outside of the boot give it a thin skim of filler and sand away...

this is as good as and easier than welding a plate INTO the original reccess on the outside...

is that better? i just welded a plate into the recess, wouldt thought it would have mattered as you can just weld the plate closer to the edge, u may need to spread filler quite wide as the heat from the welding can deform the boot.

as for the boot release get a central locking motor(either get a fiesta mk3 ghia 1) or just get a vaux 1 from a scrappy and put a spring under the rubber cover(thats all ford do and they charge 3 times as much, i found out after i bought it!!! ) anyway, next get yourself a switch(fiesta again is good) and wire it up to a live in the car and one lead to ground somewhere, wire to the boot for the motor then mount the motor opposite the recces(on the inside) and use a coat hanger to make yourself a custom pull bar, link the bar from lock catch to motor and try it!!

you may also need to cut a little off lco so that the boot doesnt just close on its own wait.

look at flush tailgate question for more info on this, blimey that ws long, hope it helped!!
