    difficult to remove speedo console??

how difficult it is to remove speedo console (entire speedo, tacho, fuel gauge area) ??

theres this fecking irrtating rattle that seems to be coming from the driver's A pillar......and the sounds seem to be coming from behind the dashboard

i was thinking, remove the console, fiddle with hands and see which part stops the sound ........

I've shoved paper, pressed, knocked, kicked (just kidding)lmao areas and the sound still persists!!!

I'm not sure what your rattle is but look at all the things that you'd never think it would be.

I had a rattle in the back of my car, sounded like something in the boot somewhere but it turned out to be the bootlid itself!!!
Of all the things i've lost,
I miss my mind the most.....

The rattle comes as standard equipment on the astra.

    erm no it dont mate.

    remove the steering column shrouds
remove the shroud in front of the clocks
undo the screws holding the speedo to the dash
put your hand behind the back ,and disconnect the speed cable, and the two power plugs.

Take of your wheel if you can gives you more room,as the column aint adjustable.

    clocks??? what clocks??

which are the screws holding the speedo to the dash?? i only see those 3 screws holding the the plastic lens to the speedo console. I removed these, only the lens can be taken out.

how messy are the power plugs and the speed cable?? is it an entagled mess or something a novice can handle??

I'm afraid the cable/power plugs might drop backwards into the lower dash area

There are 3 screws (1 upper & 2 lower) that hold the whole clock display to the dash. Once these are removed, unclip the speedo cable and power plugs and then twist out the clocks (if steering wheel still fitted). The wiring behind my dash was really neat & simple and its very unlikely anything will drop. The cabling kind of just stays there and don't move.

Once you've done this once, its a piece of p*ss next time round. Should only take 10mins max.

    Hope this helps.

The power plugs have clips that you push down ie compress towards the connector.

The speedo one is a spring loaded type that pushes toward the clocks and same time pull the cable towards the engine.
