Whats the widest offset wheels to fit 4 stud vauxhall??

track car arch clearance isnt a problem either

go as big as you want then if u can't get enough lock then space the wheels

With 3 piece rims, I suppose you could go 12 or 14".
More to the point, will you be able to get enough heat into the tyres to get them to work properly?
You may run into problems with the inner arch at the front and back, on lock. You may also run into problems steering the car - you're going to have a lot of steering torque steer and kickback over irregularitie and turning may be a problem. Running more negative camber and/or reducing body roll will help.

What about early VW alloys? offset normally about 38mm.

E30 bottlecaps are 40 offset, 14x6 - I've around 5 sets with different tyre types for the Chevette.
I had some Hartge 15x6.5 that were around 30ET - they do vary a bit, though - you should also check out other vehicle's wheels - IIRC, Isuzu, Honda, Toyota, Peugeot, VW, Audi are some other companies that have used 4 x 100PCD for some vehicles.
