888's wear down quite quickly and probably not the best for anti-aquaplaning, but for a summer tyre they'd be hard to beat. Proxes are a good all rounder

For a normal daily driver it would be pretty much my last choice!

R888's cost a fortune and i believe from next year they will not be road legal.
The problem you will find with all good "sports" tyre manufacturers is you have to compromise between wear and grip. Toyo proxies are great all round tyre but do wear fast, Yoko Prada spec 2's are great to but poor in the wet - i went to khumo tyres and they really good didnt wear that fast either - also the cheapest out of the 3

The T1R he is already on are a good all rounder too providing you dont ever put them near a racetrack.
Personally I think its silly to even try and have one set of tyres for both track and road, such different requirements that you end up compromising too much and it also works out a lot more expensive in the long run.

He should stick with what he has then IMHO, he is already on a good choice of tyre, although he could add mcdonalds trays to the rears if he wants it more exciting, lol

in toyo only ive tried toyo t1r and t1s... t1r is defo better!! IMO
but recently i have been using the Vredesteins and i really like them, really good grip in both wet and dry.. noticably better than the T1s!! could not say against the t1r as they were a couple of changes ago..lol
but the reviews say vredestiens are not the best on wear
T1R is a great tyre all round especially wet, but if you're prepared for not driving like a loon in the rain I'd say go for Spec 2s IMO they outclass the T1R in dry weather with the trade-off being wet.
if you could find a Yokohama AVS Sport V102. I have it on my astra and they stick on the road like glue, and they are excelent on wet road
The good things about T1Rs is that they (IME) are about 90% as good as any premium sorts tyre (ContiSport5/Michelin PS/Potenza RE050 etc), but at about half the price.
There are better tyres - it's just whether you want to pay a lot more.
totally true. on gsi and no. 2 gte i was running T1-S and superceded T1-R exclusively. for 195-50-15 it was 28 quid a corner in 2007, 34 quid a corner in 2009, 45 a corner in 2009 (obscure 14" size), and they are still 56 a corner. (mytyres prices)
as you say for the quality of the tyre versus the price its absolutey bonkers
Kumho KU31s are also excellent for the money
ive got yoko s drives, their bloody grippy was keepin up with many faster cars round combe last week, i wanting to go more grip thou and the advan a048 are just too much money, 180quid ish so im goin r888 as u can get them for 130ish (im on 15's)
Toyo have just bought out a tyre between the T1R and R888 haven't they? Toyo R1R? Might be worth trying that?
any1 used that r1r yet looks like a decent tyre
also why are most r888 in 13 inch?
had a few set of the t1r on my vxr an can not fault them, they last quite some time an give good traction in all weather.. 888 would wear down to quick if its your daily drive an like others have said they cost an arm an a leg.
the r1r's are made with the same compound rubber as the 888 but are meant to be better in wetter weather.
