    Dash plan.

Well it's been a fair while since I last mentioned my custom dash ideas.
I've mulled over a lot of cunning plans in the last 3 months.
My current plan is to make the structure out of 4 or 6mm ply, holding it together with woodscrews and some bits of angle bracket to connect it to the car structure.

Essentially I see it as a sweeping panel that changes angle slightly from near vertical by the passenger door to a bit more like 30degrees off the vertical by the time it's reached near the steering wheel. Maybe.

The digi dash display will be built into a binnacle. All switches etc will be moved to a Stainless or Carbon fibre panel in the centre of the dash, maybe coming out on another binnacle to make them more reachable. The fault check display will drive LEDs in this panel.

The whole lot will be trimmed in a suitable material, probably Alcantara.

    Sounds good.....

Is the ply gonna be thick enough? Ie not vibrate and possibly crack??? Just a thought! Keep us posted.

    Tom,

I'm in the process of stripping out my mk3, and I'm 90% sure I'm going to make a custom dash.

Shouldn't be a problem working with materials.

One suggestion for you though, use MDF in difficult places I know its heavier than ply but its far, far easier to work with.

BTW: Do you have any interesting custom dash related sites?

    Content.
