    GTE 16v bonnet vents

Got a gte 16v with 60k on the clocks! needs a bit of tlc, there is quite a bit of rust in the bay, underneath where both the vents are...

Are these supposed to be 'real' vents ?? as they appear to just let water run in every time it rains, and collect in the inner wings

question is, are they meant to be open ? and if not, what am i missing on this one to close them off ?

    Thanks

IIRC there should be a little plastic part that goes under the bonnet, though I dunno if they'll help here though.

yea it should have plastic bits that clip on and channel the water 2 run down were the wing bolts on, very similer 2 mk3 gsis, think they called drip trays.

Its a bit of a bad design, aftermarket gsi vents stuck on over the holes would be a more watertight solution

As said, there's supposed to be a black plastic deflector to channel the water away, but often they get ripped out by those thinking it makes them better or by slack bodyshops who can't be arsed refitting them after a spray. In all likelihood they probably warp and drop off on their own as well. See pic.

They're available new from opel-classicparts.com in Germany. 90197139 - LH Side and 90197140 - RH Side.
