    Tyres and brakes questions

    As above really.
I could do with buying some tyres now but im not sure what to go for or were to get them from.

Size would be 215,45,17". Would like R888s or something along those lines. But were is the cheapest place to go as they are so exspensive.

    Cheers

Reyland I think are cheapest for them.

Camskill have a range of track day tyres. Try them there good and price match

They are expensive everywhere at the moment, even Reyland arent doing the sort of deals they were.

Try camskill or failing that ebay, but its going to be best part of 600 quid I suspect.

You may wish to consider buying some spare rims, when you can afford them, and mounting the semi's on them and use some all weather tyres on the car for the road.

I've these for the road - quiet, comfortable, very good dry and wet grip with progressive breakaway.
Will be using A048's for the track - picking rims up before next play day.

Ive looked on Camskill and Rayland and your looking to pay £500-£600..... Well i cant justifiy that sort of money at the moment so it looks like ill be going for something that soots the road more than the track. Either that or downsize to 15" wheels but i really dont want to do that if i can help it.

My mate did a 8:50 lap of the ring on prada spec 2's on his focus RS

They arent as good as 888 by a long way in the bends, but still work fairly well for a normal road tyre and they last ages.

half the price of 888s roughly

I hate paradas on my astra! Too squeeky.
Kumho KU31 is what I have now. Great tyres in the corners. Cheap too. Pistonheads m3 and 911 boys love em too!

You wont get brakes big enough to stop an Astra driven hard under 15" wheels........I fooked Deeks today at Rockingham with big discs/bells 4 pots DS3000 pads and race fluid after around 5 hard laps lmao Those Saab engines sure are heavy.... you put alot of pace on and yours is going to be faster with more power. 225/45/17 were £440 a set and they are now over £600

lmao lmao I thought id finnished with the scrap yard tyres like i had on the Corsa the first time round.

The only 4 pots i ever see forsale are either 280mm 4 stud ones or ones that cost over 1k. I just cant do that mate.

Re: Road legal track tyres. What ones and were from ???

Personally Id be going for a piston area similar to 288 calipers as they seem to work ok on a standard master cylinder. Id try and get radial mount calipers as they make life a little bit easier. Wilwood are cheap but some people complain they flex. Otherwise ebay and any brembos off an evo, porsche, fiat coupe etc could probably be fitted (look up the standard disk widths and see if the caliper is wide enough and the diameter is within 10-20mm)

After that you want to fit the disk, slot the caliper over it and fit your wheels to check they clear. If they do then youre game, mock up some wooden brackets and find a friendly machine shop to replicate them!
