    Re: Piller gauges?

Very grey area as some say there illegal and some not.

they can be illegal as its in the head impact area.
If legal i wouldn't run any fluid gauges at head hight incase of splitage (oil, water, fuel)
Im sure they have to be linked in with the dash lights and can be dimmed.

    Yeh?

Been stopped a few times by the law now, and dont want them picking up on these gauges, if they are illegal. Read on another site, as long as you have a perfect view off the road were the wipers stop, then theirs nothing illegal about them.

i know what you mean mate, the father-in-law is ex-traffic and has said its one law in one area and another in other parts of the country.

To be honest i can't see them being any worse than a satnav stuck halfway up a screen.

Why have you been pulled over a few times? because of the guages?

I might even just go into the local police station and ask, save some bother.

Nah, being 18 and having a gsi turbo seems to attract their attention.lmao

Surely they are electrical gauges and the sensor is on the engine?
So it it is only wiring to the gauge?

Boost is only vacuum, so no worry over that one.

Some cheap/older guages ran lines like the boost ones, now as said lots run a wire from the sensor..but..some still use the old method, seen a few over the past years.

i would'nt have thought you would have any problems with pillar mounted guages. they aint really that intrusive.

also how much is your insurance in a GSI turbo at 18??!! i cant even get insured on a Nova GSI lol

you can still buy capilliary guages where the oil/water runs to the guage, and they are lot more accurate than the electric stepper motor guages too. also for oil/water the pipe is copper so not much chance of splittage
