Re: Astra has a bad water leak in the cabin

    Hmmm, an update.

After a couple more hours of getting the car wet and waiting for drips I noticed a tiny bit of water dripping down the passenger door sill, and when I pulled it off there was a load of water on the metalwork. Pouring water across the roof causes rapid drips inside the cabin which I've traced to the top windscreen seal. There's a small gap where it appears water is getting in and running across the roof to both door sills, following its way down to the carpet. So odd, because I'd have thought the roof would be obviously damp, but apparently not!

Is replacing the top windscreen seal a professional job or something I can buy and do?

    Right then, another update.

It looks like the top windscreen sill is 100% confirmed to be where the water is getting in. I've sealed it with some silicone and *touch wood* we have no more leaks!

So today I decided to remove the rear carpet, and oh my lord, there was at least an inch of water on the floorpan and the sound deadening material of the carpet is absolutely logged with water, like one massive sponge. There's a crap load of mould and stuff all over the place, I'll be glad to have a proper good clean of the car over the weekend.

The carpet was harder to remove than I thought, well, I removed the seats and gear/handbrake console but when I went to remove the plastic sills covering the rear speakers, I broke a load of clips. I reckon I'm gonna have to remove the rear seats in order to put the carpet back in, as the plastic panel won't fit properly otherwise...

A question, just how the hell do I dry the carpet out? I was thinking of leaving it out in the sun to dry, but not much chance of that at the moment really. Also the front carpet looks a lot harder to remove than the rear, someone please reassure me that it's not?

the same thing happened in my zafira gsi, i had to cut my carpet where it went under the centre console so no one could see it, i used a wet vac on my carpets and the sponge on the bottom of the carpets, then i put them next to the radiator for a few days and they dried out wicked
