any one else running 17`s on mk3 suffer from???

Scraping of the tyre against the front of the rear arch on the driver side just above where the sideskirt is on the gsi.

the wheels and tyres are speedline et 49 7.5 x 17 with 215 /40/17 tyres

It seems that it only happens when i have rear passengers, im wondering if a set of rear bumpstops would help as maybe the 60mm springs and a bootful of ice are making the wheel travel too far up into the arch over bumps etc so the wheel is grounding on the front edge of the arch???

    1 stripped 8 valve astra,
Depends, what shocks have you I found the same when I lowered mine 40mm with spax springs problem went away when I got the uprated shocks aswell. So with a 60mm drop the effects are guarenteed to be more apparent.

Not really sure what else it could be though!

    Hope you find a cure!!
8 valves are fun but I have been bitten by the XE bug.... 1500 miles and I'm bored. ah well if only I'd listened........

Have ya tried 205 tyres instead or wouldn't it make a difference to your problem?

it will be the tyres. They're too wide.

On my old car I had a bootful of ICE, 35mm, standard shcosk and 3people in the bakc with NO rubbing.

Now in my current car I have same 17s, 205/40 no ICE< but 60mm springs with uprated shcosk, still no rubbing.

Either uprate your shocks, or change your tyres, i'd go for the later first.

shocks are konis so thyre shouldnt be a problem and i dont want to run skinny tyres as it would look stupid does any one know of any where that sells rear bump stops etc i think its down to the weight etc over bumps letting the wheel go right up into the arch!

so my car looks stupid then? I'd hardly call 205's skinny.

besides, ive seen your car at the PV2002 day, and didnt even notice you had wider tyres on.

If you're too **** to change your tyres for the sake off your bodywork then so be it.

    Red face

now now calm down what im saying is 7.5 inch rim would look silly with 205 wide tyres as they are not wide enough to cover the width of the rim properly! What is it with u!

    Dave, chill!

I have no problems with rubbing. I have GSi side skirts and 17" wheels. But I have 205/40/17's not sure on with width of the rim, but whatever Team Dynamics are.

im humming and ahhing over wheter they are ET49, what rims are they?

if you want to retain 215s then a minor amount of arch rolling may be needed

theyre speedline definately et49 the arch has had lip at top rolled and there is no problem there theyres acres of room all the way around arch to be honest its just if i drive it with a couple of rear passengers and hit a bump or a dip, the tyre drags the lip of the arch at the front where the sideskirt starts to go down, my m8`s got a cav and he had the same problem again not at the top of the arch but at the front where the lip cannot really be removed as its holding the sideskirt on near that point.
