What question do i need to ask about buying a secound hand set of wheels.
    they r 2 go on a 96 Astra Lowerd by 35-40mm.

Ive seen a set of 215-45-17 (with tyres off a rover) the lad tells me they will fit my astra??

Are the wheels off a rover you say? Totally wrong offset then i think. When you go have a look at second hand wheels you need to try one on your car to make sure they are not telling porkies about what car they are for cos bolt spacing needs to be correct. Also look on inside of rim for offset, with a lowered 96 astra you really want offset ET45-49, specially with 215/45/17s.

PS - you may want to try all the wheels on your rear hubs one at a time so you can spinem and make sure they arent buckled.

Will i get 17''s on as long as the offset is 45-49 or will the arches need rolling??
Is it worth while buying a set of 16''s ??

    Cheers

Yeah the Rover offset is 36 or 38 or something - well wrong.

MkII owner meself but i know a cupla mkIII owners and theres a few on here who could help you answer that Q, but as far as im aware 17s are a relatively easy fit on the mkIII even when lowered, 205/40/17 tyres would make far less likely to rub than 215/45s though. Correct or near enough offset is a must, youd be best with et49 and 205/40 tyres then chances are no arch rolling required.

If you do evr get a little scrub on the lip of the arch youve actually got room to take it back about 2-3mm with an angle grinder without worrying about weakening, just make sure it gets sealed damn well afterwards or rust'll set in.

Oh yeah and gotta be the 17s, 16s look too small IMHO.
