What are ebay spray guns like?

Hi im wanting to get a gravity fed spray gun but am only looking to spend 20 or 30 quid

I know thats ridiculously cheap but my mate got one from machine mart for 25 quid and said it did the job well,he's done a spraying course so has used several guns so it must be upto a fairly good standard.

I just wondered if anyones bought a spray gun off ebay, ive seen loads at buy it not for the 15 or 20 quid mark which look good but i dont really know what im looking for

Anyone bought a cheapy off ebay and had good results?

    Thanks

I bought a £20 gun a while back (gravity fed, anodised blue body, ) as a spare one.

Works fine for shooting primer, but i've never used it for topcoat (i have a sealey one for that).

If the gun is set up properly, you have the right nozzle size for the media you want to spray, and enough airflow regulated to the correct pressure, I'm sure that you could get a good finish, juts maybe not "from the gun" so it'll need more polishing etc afterward.

I don't think it's a case of one being better than the other, it's just a case of personal preference of what type of gun you like. Personally, i like how a gravity fed gun feels, like it's more balanced than a suction one. (plus they look pimpin! lmao )

I have to say my old Sealey is a much better gun, the gravity gun does feel better balanced and lighter but the coverage and quality of finish straight from the gun is much better with the old suction gun.

I assume thats just the quality of gun rather than the difference between suction/gravity

The gravity Sealey i have is £88.07 inc VAT in the current catalogue, the current version of my suction gun is listed at exactly the same price I also have an old £35 suction gun that i use for primering, this has better coverage than both Sealeys but the finish is awful!!

So even with decent coverage it doesnt always mean a decent finish.

I think if my mates managed to get a gun from machine mart with good coverage and ive seen the finish he's had ill go with that!

Im sure it wont compare to alot of the more expensive guns but he's sprayed his bumpers and skirts with good results

The Sealeys are still a budget gun, i`d love a de-vilbiss gun but they are wayyyyy to expensive.

With a spray gun you really do get what you pay for...

Re: What are ebay spray guns like?

I've used Devilbliss and Sata guns for most of my bodyshop life but when I recently sprayed my car the suction fed Devilbliss let me down badly and nearly fooked the job! But I had a couple of cheap ass ebay freebie guns that came with the paint I bought. I'd used one for primer and chucked it (free wunnit) and I'd been using the pot of the other to mix the top coat. I spat the dummy with the Devilbliss and launched it over a fence some where that way --> and grabbed the ebay special. I was chuffed with the finish. So cheap isn't always nasty...
