'Small' chassis problem

just recently found out that my chassis has split.. big time..

its at the bottom of the bulk head on the gearbox side and nearly stretches from the end of the car to the exhaust..

ive had a couple of thoughts and need advice..

either source a strengthening kit and weld it up..
or
find a decent shell and a strengthening kit and do a re-shell..?

Its spilt it all the way along?
Is it a large spilt?
Would be ashame to bin such a nice shell, get a welded to have a look and see what they think, if it can be fixed, and how bad it is.

whats caused such a split ?

would just patching it up work ?

if the metal is that fatigued that the chassis is split that far, personally wouldnt like to be in that car if its ever involved in an accident.

Did your MOT place not notice this? Did you not check the car when you bought it?
