| dulls the finish, no one does it unless its a varnish type, water based rots the finish too. |

| you can get protective waxes that you can apply but i'd imagine that they'd need to be re-applied regularly.
There are special laquers that are designed to go on polished metal (IIRC Frost sells some) but i've never used it so i can't comment on the reliability etc.

| You can get a lacquar thats used to polished ally and brass, its what my wheels will be done with.
Normal lacquar will dull the finish down, but if its not hugely seen you'll get away with it.

| Wouldn't lacquer polished alloy at all. Can do more harm than good. Because polished alloy is as it sounds, it isn't keyed, so when you apply lacquer to polished metal, it never bonds to it. This means that water is free to leach between the two surfaces and doesn't dry off. You'll introduce corrosion at a quick rate. All you need too is the minutest of chips on a paint that's not actually bonded to the metal (which is easy to do) and the thing just spider webs between the surfaces and it will naturally anyway regardless of whether there are paint particles missing.
You're better off using something like metal mate sealant. http://www.clean-image.co.uk/paintse...protection.htm |

| i wouldnt lacquer polished alloy either, i had a nice set of polished RS2000 wheels on my escort estate and as Simon says they very very quickly became corroded. These had been done by a proper alloy wheel refurbishment place as well, not just a home job. Worst bit of all is i now have to strip all the lacquer to try and polish the wheels again to sell them. |

| Why wouldn't it? Metal is metal, doesn't matter whether it's a wheel or a nugget.
I haven't used metal mate on my rims as it never lives outside or gets driven in the winter/rain. The only time the rims get wet is when I wash it. Once a month they given given a quick rub down with Autosol then I use Brilliant polish on top to get rid of any swirls and fine markings. |

| supawheels is good for keeping crap off wheels doesnt really do much in the way of water, the only benefit would be the fact the waters beads off them better |
