the bro has a gt4 bonnet vent on his corsa, however after a year now its starting to crack around the edges, is there anything we can do to prevent the cracking from spreading, or any suggestions to touch up the cracks etc?

whats cracking, the filler the paint or the vent ??
Ive got same problem with Calibra......
Ive got a Celica GT4 bonnet vent....... bonded, rivetted and flushed into the bonnet - a week after fitted its cracking round edges - any gen?
Its going back to bodyshop this week and I want to know what can be done to sort it 100%.... open to ideas - best idea Ive got is pilling it up with bodyfiller *LOL lmao lmao

Its difficult to give a remedy without knowing exactly whats cracking....
If the paint is cracking it could be a reaction somewhere, if its the bodyfiller then it could have airholes in it or the air inside it (as ur driving along) is getting underneath the vent and flexing it causing the filler to crack. Is the vent rivetted on then just smoothed with filler or has it been fibreglassed then filled ??
Well had it sprayed in bodyshop - no cracks, bubbles, nowt - looked the nads..... two weeks later got cracks round edge of vent - push it down and you can see vent moving..... yet it has been rivetted, bonded down..........
I reckon the engine heat is playing havoc with the stickoflex?
Very possible - when thinking of the speed/amount of air passing through it im VERY surprised the bodyshop have left it so loose!! Ive just fitted a Sunny GTi-R vent onto an astra mk3 and the bonding process involved ....
60 sec bond adhesive
glass fibre matting with resin (guaranteed to stick to anything)
fibreglass (P40)
bodyfiller (P38)
sounds like alot of work and messing around but i can lift the whole bonnet up by the vent without even a tiny bit of movement - maybe a good idea if you ask your bodyshop to follow a similar route.
Well he reckonned stikoflex and rivets would be enough - obviously not....I recommended to him about the fibre glass but he reckons would crack eventually?
Cheers mate - will speak to him this weekend
Maybe even check the condition/position of the rivets, if 1 has popped out that maybe the cause or if its not fully held down at the front/back ??
Had the same problem with the cavvy turbo , 2 different bonnets ,2 different styles of vents but still they cracked along the joins , eventually found out the bonnet was hard against the strut brace and the vibrations coming through the car were making it crack ..........worth a check to see if anything is rubbing against the bonnet![]()
