A little help please,
Vauxhall Astra Mk3, the ideal offset for a wheel is ET49 if im not mistaken. Now, if I got a set of ET37 wheels, would i need to have them machined DOWN to ET49, or have a spacer made to bring it UP to ET49?
Thanks
Ben

Do you think a set of OZ F1's would suit the Astra?

Not a good idea to try and take 12mm off the centre of the wheel.
You only have to do a very few things right in your life so long as you don't do too many things wrong.

Really? How come? Surely there would be enough metal there for it to be skimmed down?
12mm is quite a lot to remove from the mating face of a alloy wheel ,im a machinist and wouldn't do this for myself or anyone else incase it failed .
For the sake of buying the right offset wheels it isn't worth taking the risk.
Plus I swear the standard wheel bolts are about 25mm from the base to the top of the shroud?

there's no need to go to exactly 49 so you wouldn't have to take 12mm off. People are always saying it must be 49 but vx themselves put 44's on vectra's as an example. what inch is the wheel?
you'll get away with ET37 id think, might ride like a dog tho
i wouldnt suggest machining them down, bit iffy mate
They are 16", them being second hand is the reason for me buying them in the wrong offset, but I didn't realise it would be such an issue. Would it be safe to have say, 5mm taken off?
Some alloy wheels you struggle to take even 3 or 4mm off without it getting dangerous. Others you can take 10mm or more, it's all down to the wheel design.
After all the hassle I've had with alloys I'd just buy the right offset in the first place from now on. Sick of scrubbage, tramlining etc...

ive got ET35 on my MK2 and it does rub at the back when going over large bumps but most of the time its allright
can only have 1 person in the back tho
What would people recommend the minimum thickness of the wheel centre or mating face?
your best bet is to take it to a machining place and ask their advice matey, as they can only tell you when they see the wheel in their hands.
TBH Id just put the ET37s on, but then tramlining never bothered me.

Yeah, im bidding on them at the moment, so if they do come through, i'll go pick'em up whack them on and see what its like. If they are no good i'll just tart them up and smack them back up for sale.
Well thats me out of the woods, somone else out bid my original price at the last minute, saved me a £100 lol
