    Bumper work

After the second respray on my bumper it is finally starting to peel. Has lasted much much longer then the 1st respray I did.

I want to re-do it again but I want it to be the final time. The last time I did it I prepared the bumper properly:

    Washed and cleaned
Using fine wet n dry to rub it down
Bumper prep used to remove grease and dust
    coats of Plastic primer
    Then coats of metallic paint
    Then laquer

I spent pleanty of time and effort on the prep but it still eventually started to peel. When I did my brothers bumper on his Cav I spent much less time on it just clened the bumper and sprayed paint and its perfect looks like its never been sprayed, stayed on there no problems.

Is it the type of plastic they have used on the Nova MK1 bumper that isnt helping or am I doing sonmething wrong?

Also whats the best type of filler to use on the bumper to sort some scratches out?

    Thanx

what grit paper did you use?
did you use a adhesion promoter? to help it stick?

and normal filler is fine... or you can get the grey plastic like bumper filler...

It actuly sounds like you havnt used plasticiser or what ever its called. Stuff which mixes with the paint to make it flexable

    Think I used 800 grit.

Seeing as I dont know what that is likely hood is that I didnt use one. Thought Plastic primer was designed to be more flexible base for paint.

Funny thing is I didnt use anything on the Cav bumper and its never flaked or peeled. A Nova bumper must be different in composition.

What adhesion promoter would you suggest Benn?

    Thanx

Gonna have to go look at some paint places or halfords see if they do some. Well I'll give that a go next time and hopefully its a lot better.

Oh yeh I got Isopon P48 filler. Is that ok for bumpers?

nope, as well as plastic primer (which has the flexing agent in there) you need either plastic paint, or if your useing 2pac etc, a flexing agent to add to the paint

I use rattle can paint, halfords stuff. I have used normal bumper paint as well as the plastic primer but found the bumper paint to last less then the normal body paint.

So looks like i need plasticiser, plastic primer as well as paint.

    if you getting halfords stuff,
they sell a bumper andtrim filler,
    is good stuff,small tube...works well,

plastic primer in a can should work really,

Yeh I think I saw the one today in a tube.

I would have thought the plastic primer would work well but it hasnt so gonna try this adhesion promoter as a last resort.

What about if I was to skim the whole bumper using a good filler to get imperfections out and just generally smooth the whole lot.

In theory it should stick better as its filler.

    Just a thought
