No you cant use spray cans. I have a airline, but havnt had time to ue it.
Believe it or not but a lot of halfords sell the paint in tubs. You then neeed to use rthinners in varying amount.
I did work in a body shop (**** one, spraying stuff so it didnt rust in the yard), i get all the nice jobs.
Speaking to people they all say using two pack is easy, but i used iot and found it is dodgy ****.
Write back here if you find oanything oiut. If i do i will write back.
Good luck, cos spraying is so expensive at a body shop!
Umm..... what to put. Answers on a PM to "Cav boy"
Yeah, I think Halford's will mix and sell you tins of it. Failing that, find you're local distributor (Brown Brothers or similar) - a friendly local body shop might be able to help with a name.
Don't use 2 pack though, it's very bad for your health.
If you haven't sprayed before, it might be an idea to practice on an old panel from the breakers first.
Hope that helps
Mike
My local paint suppliers (look in the yellow pages under "Cellulose") supply colours in cans from 1/2 litre up to 5 litres and the prices for cellulose are so low you can afford to make a few mistakes.
£6 + VAT for a half litre of the top-coats, primer is £14 + VAT for 5 litres and thinners are under a fiver for 5 litres of virgin thinner. Thin two parts thinner to one part primer, one to one for the top colour coat.
two-pack is about £40 a litre, sets by chemical reaction so any you don't use can't be saved for later and gives off fumes so toxic, whilst you spray you must use forced clean air breathing aperatus. You are then supposed to bake the car in an oven to set the paint.

hi james i been really ill aint had a chance to get that cd off will do now m8.
first with a infected wisdom tooth then my dam back went on top of that i got a nackered spine, a fun week for me
as for paint im spraying my gte myself. Do not use 2pack paint
1 i can kill you if you spray it with out a forced clean air breathing gear. It acts on the cetral nervos system. pluss you can not spray it without a booth and an oven m8, as two pack takes a long time to dry and will end up covered in dust out side. plus it willput the nabors in the hospital and kill the local wild life.
I aint kidding m8 its dogy **** even pro painters end up ill with it with the proper gear the can get over sensative to it all of a sudden and cant spray it any more.
use an acrilic paint or Cellulose paint
get it from your local paint suppplier thay will give advice on whats safe to use and get the spec sheet for any paint you do get
Im doing the gte in a base coat and clear coat job
base coats a custome mix of black with a pesentage or puple pearl light mixed in with the black thats 26 quid a L plus the the a fast flash thiner to desined to lift the pearl nice is 10 L
the clear is a single pack acrilic ready to spray from the gun strait out of the can easy to color sand and buff to a nice shine
is your car clear coated ? if it is your need to clear the spooler too to match the color
just for spraying the spooler you wont need much paint most is thined with 50% thinners
only takes about 2 and a bit to do an whole astra as at a 50/50 thinner mix that gives you 4L
your all so need some high build Cellulose primer thinner mix is 50/50 you can mix it thicker for filling bigger low spots if you gun will lift it
have a look here too can help a bit when thing go wroung theres a millon and one things that can its all in the prep m8 :-)
http://www.paintucation.com/index2.html
http://www.autobodypro.com/pro_forum.htm
these are to forums for spraying on the net
basickly rub down the spooler with 600 grit wet and dry use a small quirt of fairy in the water
spray 3 coats of primer 50/50 mix
then rubb down againg with 600
the spray a light guide coat ie ust a very light dusting of black primer ie spray it from 12inches and old spray can of black primer will do for the gide coat aint woth get the gun dirty for the guide coat as your only have to clean it out
tip get some real chap thinners for gun cleaning and sraying primer.
so you can see ant low spots when sanding it as primer hides all marks that will show up from 50 yards as soon as you top coat it.
then block sand it with 600 grit and this will show any low spots up if there are low spots re prime and re guide and block till its right.
then i normaly spray one last coat of primer and block that
what grit you go down to depends on the paint your useing if you go to fine it wont key very good and may lift later
to couse and it will show sanding scraches in the top coat for cellulose
go to 800
all ways change warter between grits of paper and if you drop it dont use it againg a one peace of grit from the last courser grit or crp frome the floor will make a lovely scratch in your work a good indicator of contaminate paper is scarching sound whn sanding
wach the edges of the paper go for getting bigg scracthes too
a good tip id leva the paper socking in the warter for a goo while before you start and it will soften it up and reduse the chances of
scraching the panel
onece your shaw its strait blow the color
how it apllied depends on what paint you use the paint supplyer will give you the spec sheet for the paint if you ask and advice if you ask nice
the spec sheet will tell you what pressure to spray it at the mix and the temp range of the paint and flash times
trust me get an old door or some think to pratis on first with some cheap paint
it will take you time to figer out the gun and get a feel for it and
how to ajust the fan and and fluid flow of the gun
primer is sprayed at about 6inchs from the panel 8 for top coat
its easy to spray primer good pratis fot the top coat
if you have to clear coat it you need to clear shortly after the color gos on depending on the paint your useing the speck sheet will tell you ho long the window is for clearing it
ie in my case about 30 to 40 mins depending on the temp.
try to do it indoors if posible save buffing out flys and dust bugs love fresh paint and will come frome miles to land on it :-)
after its all finshed it may need color sanding and compounding/buffing
ie rubbing down very carfull with 1200 or 1500 grit the buffed with the right compound for the paint
for weeks if done by hand or quick if done with a machine buffer
if its a matalic paint its even more fun :-) cant color sand a matalic unless its clear coated
pluss its harder to spray
if matching it you have to try to mach the stye and gun movement of the original sprayer plus most need each coat to be sprayed in a opposit direction so it dont end up with stripes in it. some colors are a lot harder to spray than others blacks fun so`s red
anyway good luck
ill gett them cds off tomorrow or the next day, as if the weathers good like yester day im going to get a early start and work on paint job on the gte
you can learn the basics of spray easy from books and the net but its one of them things that take pratis m8
thats where i am getting better now :-)
hope you can decode this as im dislxsick and my grammer and spelling are ****. :-)

cheers for that all!, ill have to get some practice in i think!
has the spoiler already been painted b4? if so dnt primer it u dnt need to trust me im a paint sprayer by trade why cover good paint! it sounds stupid but its true! i sprayed a mates car in 2 pac n its ok just remember to b carefull it wont kill u if u only use it every so often
bigger n betters the way forward!
I agree with Jap Nova about the primer, but I have to disagree with using 2 pack. While it might not kill you, isocyanates (in the 2-pack hardener) will react with water and gel up. This means that if you breathe in 2-pack vapour (which you will without a forced clean air mask) it will react with the water in your lungs, f**king you right up.
Mike
nah, its a new spoiler, it is already primed, i am have given it a light coat of primer as it says.
i would get to the dics if i was you m8 andget you lungs checkedOriginally posted by jap nova

you may have damaged you imuned system too
so charcoal masks will give limted protecton but thats a bad idear
even pros who use it for years can sudenly become over sentive to it.
pluss you can use it with out a booth and oven as it take too long to dry and you will have **** and dust all over it.
shorry to say but it is very stupid to use it with out the right gear m8
anyone dont do it with out the right gear its very dangerous stuff
it can do all sorts to you
i did use a charcoal mask n kinda didnt really breath wen doin it i know how bad it is i think if im right its go sianide in or sum equally deadly toxin! i used celly on my car n it was ok just got to keep buffin it to keep the shine m8
bigger n betters the way forward!
Local suppliers for our area are movac and morelli!
Dont know their numbers sorry!

2-pack paints contain isocyanates not cyanide. They affect your lungs only. If you select the right hardeners and thinners, there is no reason that you can't use 2-pack without a booth or oven. You are far more likely to get crap in it outside, but it will still be touch dry within a few minutes.
Mike
yep i kow you can get isocyanates free 2pack but aint seen any aroundOriginally posted by Mike007
