    big wheels

i have been thinking about new wheels for a while and now front tyres are pretty worn, i am getting near to a decision. I really would like to go to 18's but worried what it would do for handling and ride. The car is an astra coupe and i know the tyre would have to be a 215/35. How do you find your 18's? I would like to know before i buy and find them not to my likeing. I had 205/40*17 on my previous civic with no problems, so will the ride be that much different?

i have got 19's on my mk 4 hatch and it hasnt ruined anythink about the car if anything it has improved it. The only problem is first gear is very short and the 19's dont help. Lots of people on astra-sport (sorry for the plug) have got 18's and have reported any problems at all and are very happy with them, go for it at the end of the day the new astra SRI has 17's as standard so an extra inch is not going to make much differance and you wont be making your rolloind road radius any larger.

Well hello to MatG arent we getting about a bit. LOL.

Mat's right though, I have 8 x 18" Masitaly wheels on my Astra-G and with the -35 Apex springs I have the ride is superb,go get the big rims, modern cars are alot more suited to the bigger rims than 'older' motors.

i guess your arches are rolled then? I have been lead to believe i can only get away with a 7.5 inch rim, which rules out maany designs.

You can get away with 8'' with a 35mm drop but just get smaller tyres, Ross hasnt had to get his arches rolled and they dont catch.

I have had my arches rolled twice and had the bumper mounting points moved back and grinded down, i have also had to cut out some of the arch linner to get the 19's to fit.

smaller tyres? smaller than a 35 series profile? Most places tell me a 7.5 inch is as wide as i can go. I often travel with four in the car so need to have clearance. Had a look in skidz earlier and saw a few nice rims. What do you make of the quality of rims such as AEZ, ACE,ATP and ALESSIO? I have been told to stay clear of BK rims because of there quality but is there any others that i should steer clear of?

i not brave enough to go for 19's. Still having difficulty in getting wheels. Too many people are coming up with too many different ideas what i need or can do. Some places tell me the offset is 49mm others 40-42mm and today 35mm. The 35mm came from countless German aftermarket mags. So what tyre and offset should i go for if rim is 8 inch wide? 225/35 and 42mm offset?
