Question Will I get away with 225-40-18 on my Coupe?

I am currently running 215-35-18 tyres on my Coupe and they are a little on the narrow side for the 8" rims. I will be going up to 225-35-18 at least but was wondering if 225-40-18 would fit? Obviously the car is lowered and the wheels are et45. Would be nice to have a bit extra tyre on there if possible.

    Thanks.

Mike, I think ur gonna have some serious arch catching issues with 225/40 - A few ppl have tried it (u posted this question a few months back on AS and got the same answer I recall) Thats why most ppl are running 225/35 rubber now. iirc it catches on the rear arch more than anywhere else - obviously if you were prepared to do a little work in that area then yes they will fit. The offset is certainly good at 45mm but if u are prepared to do a little rear arch work then go for it! It'll certainly give u that little extra rim protection we all crave on 18s.

If not, then maybe running 225/35 would be the next best thing providing u can find them in your choice of tyre.

Yeah - Toyo Proxies come in that size (225-35-18), so not a problem there. About £15 a tyre more expensive though. Cheers.

£15 a tyre isnt much more tbh at that price.

I always think largish cars with rubber band tyres looks cack most of the time anyway. You can have big rims & still have some decent rubber coverage on there.

I think the way I would make sure it is ok is this. The increase in tyre size is 10mm, of which 5 is on the outside, 5 is on the inside.

I would go out and look at the tyres and see how much space you have at the moment.

The rears I do not think will be an issue but the fronts might be a bit closer to things that will touch.
