What alloys will fit??? Atstra mk4, 4 stud

Looking to get a set of alloys for my V reg SXI.

Wheels are currently of the 4 stud variety.

What makes of other cars are similar,ie. whne looking on eBay I have seen some that will fit fords, VW's rtc and are 4 stud. One I am looking at says they are 17x7jj, this means nothing to me.

Honda, Renault, VW, Old 4 stud BMW's, Mazda, Rover anything with a 4x100 PCD but many of them the offset will not be correct and if you are going for a bigger size they may rub your arches or your struts.

If memory serves me correct you should be ok with anything from a 45 to 49 offset.

I might sound a bit thick but is the offset the hole in the middle, if so is it 49mm for example??

Ones I am looking at are :
    Aspect ratio 45
    Tyre width 205
    load index 84
    rim diamerter 17"

Offset, measured in millimeters, can be negative or positive, and is the distance from the mounting surface to the rim's true centerline. A positive offset means the wheel is front of the mounting surface, closer to the center of the arch; a negative offset means the wheel is away from the mounting surface and projecting from the arch. Offset affects the scrub radius of the steering and it is advisable to stay within the limits allowed by the vehicle manufacturer. However, if tyres are fitted which are significantly wider than those specified by the manufacturer, a compromise may have to be adopted whereby a wheel with less offset is used to prevent the tyre rubbing on the suspension.

As mentioned briefly above, 49mm is the magical Vx offset but this can vary all depending on several factors including rim width and diamater. If your happy to stick with 17s then Id advise going for a 7 or 7.5" wide rim with offsets of 38-49mm. The tyre size u will need to run (to keep speedo accurate and several other issues) would be 215/40/17 - this is the size as fitted as standard to various models in the Astra G range. You can however alter the aspect ratio if u so wish to 45% instead of 40% ie 215/45/17 instead of 215/40/17...This aids comfort and adds a little rim protection incase ur worried about rim damage. TBH though Id stick with the tried n tested size of 215/40/17. You may even find ur speedo will be more accurate with this tyre size than what ur currently running.

As mentioned above, just make sure they have the stud pattern of 4x100mm. The 4stud Astras have a centre bore (ie hub size) of 56.6mm so check the centre bore of any wheels u get. Most aftermarket rims have a centre bore of around the 70mm mark. This means u can fit spigot rings (ie plastic/metal rings which reduce the centre bore from the universal 70mm or so down to the required size of the car you'll be running them on.) SPIGOT RIMS MUST BE USED ON AFTERMARKET RIMS...or indeed any rims u get which are larger than 56.6mm bore. (basically c/bore is the hole in the middle of the wheel)

If ur buying OE wheels from another manufacturer then sometimes you'll find the centre bore is less than the Astra one. Therefore in this instance you would need to rebore the hole to 56.6mm so it will fit snuggly onto your wheel hubs.

Anyway here's a full list of wheel sizes and required offsets for the Astra G. This may not be of much use to yourself in these circumstances but will help anyone looking for uprated rims on their Astra G.

Wheel Sizes & Offsets for Astra G

The astra mk4 can take big wheels without any arch work and with a low drop. If you are willing to modifiy the arches massive wheels are possible.

16'' ...... these are fitted to the astra sri as standard so will fit fine although they can look a little small still. If you wanted to fit aftermarket wheels in this size these are the golden rules:

Maximum width to fit without mods on a 40mm drop is 8'' The offset needs to be between ET 40-49

17'' ..... Again these are fitted to the GSi/SRi-T as standard so again no problems!! For aftermarket wheels this is the size range you need to stick to:

Maximum width to fit without mods on a 40mm drop is 8'' The offset's can vary though depending on width.

    8'' ET 45-49

    7.5'' ET 42-49

    7'' ET 38-49

18''....These are big wheels that can be fitted to the astra with no mods as long as you get the size correct, if you dont you may have to roll the rear arches as room at the rear is tight the bigger the size wheel you go.

Maximum width to fit with a 40mm drop is 8'' The offset's can vary though depending on width.

8'' ET 45-49 With this width if you lower anymore than 40mm the car will need to have the rear arches rolled.

7.5'' ET 42-49 This is the perfect size wheel and if you get the correct size you can drop it upto 60mm with no arch work.

7'' ET 38-49 This wont really fill the arch that much but does mean you can go a little lower on the offset.

19''.... As with all cars any size wheel will fit if you are prepared to do the work. 19's do fit but wheel size is not only very important but also very rare. Room on the rear arch is the main problem with fitting 19's. To fit 19's this is the size wheel you will need, so that minimum modification is requiered with a 40mm drop:

7'' or 7.5'' ET 42-49 these are very rare though and will require you to roll the rear arches and relocate the rear bumper bracket. You will still get rubbing with 4 people in the car but it wont be too bad.

Any bigger will require serious work and a lot of modification. It will also impare the handleing and driveabilty of the car.

In General a 3 door hatch has the least room, with the 5 door, saloon and estate having a fraction more room due to the design of the car. Coupes and Convertibles have even more room which means you can go for slightly different offsets but the best are listed above for all models.

Any Questions u have - then just fire away. Always glad to help a fellow Astra or indeed any Vx owner out.
