Wink Heated rear seat conversion. Help/advice needed!

Right guys I'm wanting to do a rear heated seat conversion in the big Calibra. The rear seat is filled with a foam cushion that I plan to cut grooves into using a soldering iron or more likely a knife-saw. I can then lay elements in it.

Now could I wire these up to a relay? I want a switch where the rear ashtray is, for the people in the back. What sort of current would the elements need?

    Any ideas?

Do you have a haynes manual with a wiring diagram for your heated seats for the front? This way you can run things as if they were standard. You can run a wire from a spare ignition live in your fuse box (fuse will be same as front seats) You will need to run it so that the switches have igniton lives and your relays can have either a permenant live or an ignition live, as the switches are only there to flick your relays, as when your relays flick over more current will be drawn (bigger load) output from your relay goes to your pads and then from the pads it gets earthed. But a wiring diagram would show this for the front seats.

Thanks Matt I'll have a look in Haynes. Not sure if the heated seats are on the wiring diagram? Perhaps they are

So if the switch has an ignition live, and the heated seats are switched on... then I turn the ignition off... what will happen? The switch loses power, the relay closes and the heated elements switch off? Whereas a permanent live would not do that, the seats would stay on regardless...?

Yeah thats right. Saves having a constant drain on the batterys. You can pick up heater pads from vaux too that were fitted in the MK4s that don't require you to cut grooves. As what your doing is on my list of thigns to do to my coupe. Can do a quick wiring diagram if you want, will be basic though.

Cool I will ask next time I'm down Vaux! And post up pics of my progress (although TBH it won't be for a few weeks yet!)

Cheers Matt, and you're welcome to test it with a girl of your choice! lmao

    Dont cut your seats, lol

Just get the pads either from vaux or out some old cally leather... then wire them up the same as the front, should be easy

    Calibra V6 again :)
i was going to do this but i never sit in the back to worry about it, LOL.

The best way is to get some olf cally heated sdeats and rip the elements out and wire them up to your standard switch, but if you want to put a new switch in, use a relay to power the other seats when the switch is activated.
i will get a scan of the digram for you.

The black (SW) goes to fuse F2 and the Grey and Green (GRGN) goes to fuse F9.

So basically all you need chav is the buttons and the loom behind it with the elements, wire it up the same as in that diagram.

If you look after the switches S30 and S55 it goes to X6 which is the big connector down in the passenger footwell Nice and easy to wire it from there if need be, that sif you want to keep the same switches and it turns them all on.

That is an easy one, it only takes ignition live and earth, the earth on the element side.

Edited for the real question, I assume std cally front seat heating pads just require 12v acros the terminals? Any idea what current they draw?

Does anyone know at what rpm the std xe ecu defaults to open loop operation and starts ignoring lambda readings?

I know load will affect it, but in a low load motorway cruise scenario?

Random alistair. - And Nope I don't know.

On the seats thing - no relays just the switches.
They actually don't draw that much current either.

I've go a calibra interior in my cav (cloth seats). I've got calibra heated mats to go in front seats and cavaliver ones to go in the back seats. Also switches in the back for the rear ones.

IIRC the fuse used is the same one for the rear widnow de-mist (and mirror de-mist).

Pain in the butt opening the seats up though. But done easy enough (time consuming).

Interesting thread. No prizes for guessing why chav asked though.

I wonder if Vauxhall ever realised a Calibra could be used as a mobile porn studio?

lmao @ this thread. I haven't a clue what ANYONE is on about, except Matt maybe! Thanks anyway!

I'll get the elements in THEN post up some wiring questions!
