    Lacquer flaking Off

    Hi all.

Just in need of some advice please...

Was polishing the car the other day and noticed that on the rear bumper the lacquer has started to flake off in a small area , and am wondering if there is any quick fix without having to get the bumper repainted.

i.e. re-lacquer flat off and polish.

Any hints and tips would be appreciated.

    Cheers

As far as i know the only way round this to re-laquer. as the laquer is clear its gonna show a line if you try to do a small spot repair

You could mask off the offending area, lightly sand with 1000 (wet) grit wet n dry, then gently spray over the area with colour match paint just enough to bring the level back up.
When dry, remove masking and a few light blow overs with laquer to blend in (Make sure the surrounding area is clean before laquering )

scotchbrite the area to dull it down to a uniform matt finish, mask the area within close proximity of the flake lines, apply very thin coats of lacquer until it is raised above the level of the existing lacquer, then use some wet 1500 and 2000 to bring back down to a uniform level, hey presto invisible repair

what about after hes wet sanded it?
it will leave it looking dull, and will need polishing,
and if its only re lacquaring you should be able to just use grey scotchbrite,
I'm louder than gods own revolver and twice as shiney.

Yes Benns right, after the leveling the surface should be a uniform dullness with no level marks, that means its perfectly level.
get some G3 and a damp cloth and buff back up, then some G10 or autoglym polish, then whack a few coats of wax on
