after getting all the oil and nucks and crannys clean.... what is my next step? Is it to rub gently the rocker/timing cover and plug cover with 800 then 1200?

and them spray like mad .....and let it dry till sunday morning if i start saturday say 12:00pm....ish?

You got the enamel instead of the metal flake but just lightly key it with 800 grade then spray about 4-5 coats at 10 min intervals. It will be dry in about 3 hours, less in a warm place.

arent you supposed to wait for one colour to fry before painting over it with another?
Could always GENTLY take a file across the letters to clean the paint off then repaint the raised bits.

Even fast drying stuff needs about 24 hours to cure fully. Best bet would be to stick it back on the engine, let the heat cook it properly and do the lettering in a few days. You can do it anytime.

What sorta paints are you using? Bear in mind some types will react with each other (cellulose and enamel do sometimes) so you should always stick to one type of paint.

Mind and make sure the inside of your rocker cover is clear of any crap from rubbing it down and spraying it before you stick it back on the car.

That may well be your problem, Hammerite stuff is cellulose based, dunno about plasti kote, it might be acrylic or summat. You could lightly rub down the raised lettering with fine wet and dry to remove the paint first.
