    Astra GSi side skirt question

Well, after months of putting it off, the side skirts are going on sometime this week! Want them done for the national cruise and Midlands meet. This will finish off the look of the car.

Have one quiery though. The skirts themselves are being fitted using the proper clips / rivets etc.

Just how do you fit the door trims then? Just bond them on or are there little clips for those? Doesn't seem by looking at the back that there is an awfull lot to clip on to.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Cool! That'll make one thing nice and easy! Might take the doors off to fit those as I don't want them dropping while they're drying!

    Cheers

They shouldnt do si, just make sure you put enough stick a flex (or whatever u use) on them and hold them for a good 15-20mins while the stickaflex becomes tacky and they should be fine (as long as you dont have a heavy downpour....lmao)

Si? Check the northern meet thread in MIG Torque....reckon we could sort summot there?!!?

no no no, its on Sunday.

I was just saying with fenix maybe it would be an idea if we could have a joint northern and midland meet, especially as they're on the same day?!?!

Would be even better if everyone came on the Saturday cause then we could all head down to the National Cruise.

Deffinatly, I've hinted at ianwoodsr, but I'm not sure he's taken the bait. I think it would be a really good idea. then we could have our own mini MIG convoy. Would be a good sized meet up as well. I'm reluctant to go to both (meet and cruise) as I don't wanna have to shell out £25 of fuel for the Northern Cruise and then a further £20 for the national cruise.

Hate to spoil your fun, but they are not bonded on,
They are clipped on the same as the rest of the kit.

Buy the clips from Vauxhall then drill the door, and pop rivet the clips on in the right place.

now you're asking, Its been a while since I did mine,
I think they are 4" high and 1" wide, with little lugs coming of the top of them, they clip into the top and bottom of your side moulding,
I ordered the full set of clips from Vaux, then worked out what they were all for because the computer at Vaux didn't know there purpose or position.

LOL @ Bren, yeah also in the EPC they don't come under styling, but under stone
chip protection, the while skirt does. Well, I've ordered a load of them anyway and they are all in the car, but I think have to get the other clips as well. The skirts are having another blow over and a friend of mine who's the head guy at the local Rover body repair place is fitting them. It's been suggested to me that since you can't get
a template for the clip positions, I stick the clips lightly to the skirt with Blue-Tac and the other side with double sided sticky tape, then place the skirt carefully against the side of the car, the clip should then stick to the body in the correct position ready for drilling.

    Any further gen?

Dave, sounds like a plane there mate. Be good if we could get 20 or so cars out at Southport!

    Now im confused.

Thought the northern lot were gonna be coming down to see the midlands group?! lmao

Easier if the midlands meet moves maybe north ever so slightly, and then the northern meet moves down abit....?!?!

Anyway, why are we doing this?!? John and the midlands guy should be lmao

Yeah, that's a point! Doah! Bad day mate, it's a Monday and my head is ull of the remnants of Saturday night drinking binge!

Could meet half way I guess, Stoke or Stafford area might be cool, but then again, the cruise may end up near Saffs.

    Stoke?

I run a strip of masking tape down the door, then offered the strip into the position it should be in, then angled the top down so I could see behind the strip, then person no2 marked with a biro onto the masking tape the position where the clips needed to be.
Make sure you take your time, it will stand out a mile if you mess up.

Sounds good Bren. Yeah, there's 2 of us doing it. Will take the time though. How did you do the rest of the skirts? Cause you did this for the doors.

    Same again,
We actually ran a few strips of masking tape down,
The first strip was used to mark the position of the very top of the skirts in their finished position, then the 2nd was used to mark on the mounting points., the doors leave a small gap between the top of the clip and the actual top of the strip, say 5-6mm, so that again gives you a good idea about how to position them once you have some lines to work to.

Cheers, seems like a good idea. Shall put it into practice sometime this week. If it's crap, you can rip the piss out of it when you see me next!

Shall take our time doing it though. Martin (guy who's fitting them) is very very meticulous with his work, so should be. Gonna have to go and get some waxoil to pump into the sills and doors then!

thats exactly what I have done, mixed it down a bit with oil and sprayed it with a spray gun in all the harder to reach places in the rear too.

Yeah, once the rivets are in, before I fit the skirts I'll get the pump and gun you can buy and do the outside panels as well, spray tons round the bit where the arch meets the skirt as they go rusty for a pastime on GSi's.

yeah Simon. Stoke sounds good, and it means we shouldnt have to trek too far to the cruise.

What you reckon chances of this working out are?!? This'll be a wicked meet if we can do it

Should be good mate! Think there is a convoy from the Stoke area. I'll have to check Cruiseboard though.

It could work out nicely mate. You talk to Jon, and I'll see if I can get anything out of Ian.
