Hi, I want to run 18's on my cally T, but am unsure on tyre size?
what tyre sizes are you running and do you have any clearance/rubbing issues?
thanks

Why is it than whenever I rebuild my engine, I always end up with with a box of left over bolts!?!?
tyre size is only part of clearance issues mate
if u get the right offset and wheel width, tyre size will not be a problem.
for 18's on a cally id recommend 42-45mm offset and a wheel width of 7.5"(i cant see u getting 7"wide 18's) if possible, 49mm(vaux standard) might catch on the inner edge with that wide a wheel.

The offset is 42, but not sure on width, will find out later.
the options of tyres are
215/35/18 or 225/40/18.
I'd really prefer the 225/40's.

225's would be suitable for 8"+rims, other wise get the 215's
///MIG PERFORMANCE BMWs
I've had several Cally Turbo's on 18's.
215/35/18 is the tyre to have... and a -35mm drop is okay as well. Shouldn't scub unless you or your passenger are fat fooks!
Here's a full guide to wheel choice on the Calibra Turbo:

really would like 225/40/18's, would think the larger profile would give a nicer ride, and the wider wheel better grip?

Taller profile tyres do give a better ride (more cushioning) but for absoulte grip, low-profiles are best (less flex in the wall)
As for width - well in the wet wider tyres aquaplane easier, and in the dry tend to tramline on uneven surfaces. But on smooth dry tarmac wider tyres are better.
Now thats made it a hard decision!!
would this setup be ok though, or do you think there will be clearence issues (its running std suspension)

225/40/18's,

burger tyres! go 215/35 lmao
Thats exactly what I had and IIRC it didn't catch unless you had a car full (and even then it was minimal)
Should be fine![]()
But seriously, how can you live with standard Calibra suspension lmao
I don't like it, but i'm so scared of txb!! she's given me enough problems, without that! had her 16 months, and only been on the road 3!!
Why is it than whenever I rebuild my engine, I always end up with with a box of left over bolts!?!?
90% of calibra txb rumours are rubbish. I've owned four Cally T's, all with slammed suspension and bad camber, done probably 150,000 miles in them and never had a box fail!![]()
Seriously, it's probably the cossie boys spreading rumours like that!
but that leaves 10%, and i know she'll make part of that percentage!!
think i will look at camber kits before i risk lowering, or upgraded 'box

All a waste of time! Camber kits wreck the handling in my experience (unless you want it snap-tastic) and upgraded boxes (locked boxes) have problems of their own.Originally Posted by brooksy
At the end of the day a stock txb thats looked after will last a long time (160,000 is not uncommon). Worst case scenario a 2nd hand one is only £80!
