    Devil Full respray question..

    Hi!

Ok i have a bare shell that i want re-sprayed, but i cant afford to get it done for a few months
So what im gonna have to do put the engine, seats and dash in and get it back on the road.

But when i come to get it re-sprayed will they have to remove the seats and engine? Cos otherwise how will they spray the engine bay properly?

    Cheers

Depends what engine is in it. But if you want a good job, then engine, gearbox, and all ancilliaries need to come out.

What colour are you going for?

It will be easier to degrease and clean the engine bay without everything in as well.

Wait around for a bit. Or get the shell to mine and I'll do the engine bay for you.

I can, yes. I have a compressor, airlines and airgun. Can't spray 2k yet though as I don't have a respirator. But could spray in acrylic.

Only really worth doing when the weather is nice. Too much moisture in the air at the moment. Paint will bloom. My garage is not ventilated/sealed.

Its winter though so wont be able to do it for a while will you?

Im thinking of changing the colour cos even if i just have the engine bay sprayed i need to buy all the paint for £300.

    Hmmmmmmmmm
    Will think what to do.

What sort of paint can you spray? Metallic?

Well, it's not winter yet. I have a heater in there, so it can be ok, just to do an engine bay.

Can spray any paint. Metallic isn't hard to spray. Pearls can be although not tried those.

How did you get on with the acrylic on the Cav boot? Didn't see any thread by you on it...

Simon, saw you polishing your Cabby with a motorised buffer in a pic in the shiny car thread. Was that a random orbit one? Would you use a normal circular motion one?

    It's an oscillating one.

Wouldn't use a circular one on old faided paint, but to cut back new paint I probably would, if it was thick enough.

What about just for waxing/light polishing with fairly recent paint?

That was for fairly recent paint. I had the cabrio blown over about 3 years ago, that pic was taken nearly two years ago. The paint remained in a newish state due to me keeping it gargaged and never driving it in poor weather/winter. Washed whenever it was used.

It's a very light action and if you used a decent/new buffing pad, then it's fine. Probably lighter and more even than polishing by hand.

Thanks, I meant what about a plain circular one one fairly recent paint for waxing/light polishing? I've got one of these types, but never used it you see. Might flog it if you reckon it wouldn't be any good for me.

Should be ok. Are you using it to cut back paint? Obviously they are high speed, so just be careful with pressure and don't feather the same area too much. Watch the corners/edges.
