    Projector Headlamps Info (pics)

You all know these lights right ? Well I got my set today and took them apart..

The UK lights are not FK-Automotive lights as I first thought thay are from by "ULTRA Auto Cosmetics"

and the plastic lens and chrome suround are made by "SONAR"

just some info I found out while taking them apart

    Ok here are some facts:

The black strip around the indicator is in fact black paint which can easily be scraped off to give a clean look.

There is a socket for your existing side light bulbs so you don't have to use the angel rings as sidelights..

You can color the chrome suround any color you wish and also tint the plastic cover if you wish..

The plastic cover can be hard to get off but I can take you step by step in a "how to" soon...

    Whats my plan:

Im going to color code the chrome and maby slightly tint the cover....

You can customise the lights so much for example you can change the color of the led's in the rings or make each side of the ring a different color..

These light are great I recomend them..

err - wont the rozzers take exception to those with the tinted lenses aswell?

I like the black bit tho, certainly don't notice the black line round the side any more.

How did it take to dissmantle them, and does everything fit properly when you put them back together?

Painting the chrome part should be legally ok, coz it doesn't effect the bulbs at all.
I would be interested to see how it effects the beam tho, alot of headlamps (infact most i think) use the reflective surface that surrounds them to focus the light and to reflect the light that would be shining backwards - forwards onto the road.

When they're back in the car we'll have to get some night time pictures of OE Vs Chrome Vs Painted.

painting the main chome part is fine as tecnically it is doing f-all - however the chrome reflactor area around the main bulb should not be painted over atall.

now if you look in the picture you can see the chrome area **surrounding** the bulb (the reflector) has not been painted so there will be no problem with the beam

yet tinting the lense will probably cause a few problems with the coppers

UPDATE: Im not tinting them at the moment but if I do it will just be a slight tint so not to hinder the beam...The tint pic above is just a quick photo shop ...

As bladez said the bulb reflectors (main, dip, ind) have not been painted and the chrome behind the Halo rings has not been painted to give the max light reflectivity...

Thay fit back together fine .I used black 227 silka flex for mine but if you what a clear look just use clear silicone ...

Im working on the folowing HOW TO's at the moment with lots of pics...

-"Custom Mk3 halo projector lights" (COMING SOON)
-"Custom Mk3 GSi grill and bumper slats" (gone is the horid mesh)
-"Fitting a tilt and slide sunroof "

My paint came off with my finger nail ... after you scrape it off paint it the same color as your car..

The black is on the back so you will not see small scraches on the front ..But I would paint it white or you might see behind the indicator..

Top thread....... well done!! I'm certainly very keen..... just the chrome won't suit my car's style and that black section had been putting me off as mine's white and it'd look pap!!
