    Rear Headrests

I've very recently acquired a set of rear headrests, I've also gone and bought the collars (bit that should go into the seat for the headrest to slide up/down in)!!
Problem is I don't know how to get these collars into the seat, I've taken off the rear seat covering and I can't see/feel any form of bracket or anything for the collars to mount into!!

    PLEASE HELP!!

Do you know where the hole will be?? Is it a hole in the cloth and sponge and just needs the headrest collar, or is it a case of there's a hole in the sponge, just have to find it and cut the cloth??

I was hoping to do it today, coz it's nice and bright....I've also got loads of temping work to do as of tomorrow so I won't get much of a chance for about a fortnight!!

Ive no idea mate, its not something that IVe ever looked into.

As a temp measure you could slot em behind the seats?

There used to be a how to... on this somewhere!

there should be holes in the metal on the rear seats should be able to find them by pushing hard without taking cloth off so if you cant find them then they are not there

Under the cloth is a thin layer of very soft foam. underthis is the main foanm that forms the seat padding - this should have some holes and metal brackets in it if you've got the right seats.

I found mine by using a long thin steel wire. Grind a point on the end and push gentally between the weave in the fabric where you think a hole should be - have a lok at the front one to get a rough idea.

When you fing a hole the resistance when pushing the wire will be much less that when you are pushing through the solid foam.

If you find a mounting hole (should be about 15mm dia). probe around with the wire and try to locate the centre of the hole -be dead sure on this. Then carefully cut a small cross over the centee of the hole and fit the guide tube. Once you've done one the rest are easy(er).

    Happy hunting

You should be able to find the metal bracket by pressing the foam n but not all seats actually have them (despite teh popular myth that they do). You then have 3 options:

    1) dismantle the seat and make some metal brackets to fit
    2) Go to a breakers and try and find a rear seat from a GLS etc which has the brackets, stip and swap cloth over
    3) carefully decide where you want the headrests to sit, cut the material and foam and push the collars in. It wont be as secure as the proper seats with metal brackets but it will be secure enough. The 2nd GSi interior I had, had this doen at some point and it was secure enough that no-one ever noticed.
Couldn't think of anything good to put in here.

    ummmmmm........

my nova had the metal guides already in the rear seats, but the entrances to which were covered with the cloth.

if they are there somewhere its a simple job of cutting a cross in the cloth (carefully!) otherwise you could try an option of bending the bars and fitting into the parcel shelf like in some carltons....(think it was carltons anyway)
