Removal of Corsa Sri Gear Knob - How?

Hi, can anyone give me some instructions on how to remove my gear knob to enable me to fit a chrome one please? I'd rather not break it as I may have to replace the original if I trade my car in at a later date with the dealer. It's a Sept 2003 reg. Ta muchly.

get hold of it VERY tight and twist it. its only glued on but its well glued on !!
if it wont come off with your hands then use mole grips to twist it
